The Complete Guide

Going solar in Sambhajinagar,
explained.

Everything a Sambhajinagar homeowner or business owner should know before signing a solar quote: the central subsidy, Maharashtra's net-metering rules, the MSEDCL process, what system size to choose, and what's actually inside a rooftop solar installation.

01 · Subsidy

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is the central government's residential rooftop solar subsidy scheme, launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in February 2024. For Sambhajinagar homeowners, the subsidy works in three tiers based on installed capacity:

  • ₹30,000 per kW for the first 1 kW of installed capacity
  • An additional ₹30,000 per kW for the 2nd kW (taking total to ₹60,000 for a 2 kW system)
  • An additional ₹18,000 per kW for the 3rd kW (taking total to ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system)
  • Systems above 3 kW receive the same maximum subsidy of ₹78,000, there is no additional subsidy on capacity beyond 3 kW

The subsidy is credited directly to the homeowner's bank account after the system is commissioned and inspected. The eligibility flow goes through the PM Surya Ghar National Portal, where the homeowner registers with their consumer number, selects an empanelled vendor (Heaven Green Energy is one of the empanelled vendors), and gets a redirect to the local distribution licensee for the technical feasibility check.

Alongside the subsidy, the scheme also offers a collateral-free, low-interest loan for residential systems up to 3 kW at an interest rate of around 7% per annum, offered by select public-sector banks under the scheme.

Important note

The PM Surya Ghar subsidy is applicable only to residential rooftop solar installations on a self-owned property with a domestic electricity connection. It does not apply to commercial, industrial, or housing-society common-area installations.

02 · DISCOM

MSEDCL net-metering in Sambhajinagar

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), also known as Mahavitaran, is the state distribution company that supplies electricity to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and most of Maharashtra outside the metropolitan licensee areas. MSEDCL operates through a network of regional and zonal offices, including the Aurangabad regional office that serves the Marathwada region. Any rooftop solar system installed in Sambhajinagar that exports power to the grid must be registered with MSEDCL under Maharashtra's solar net-metering policy.

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) governs the tariff and net-metering framework that MSEDCL operates under. Key points for Sambhajinagar consumers under the current framework:

  • Net-metering is available for residential and small commercial consumers under MERC's Net Metering for Rooftop Solar PV Systems Regulations. Solar energy you export to the grid offsets the units you import, and your MSEDCL bill is calculated on the net energy consumed.
  • Net-billing and gross-metering arrangements apply to larger systems and certain consumer categories at the prevailing feed-in tariff notified by MERC.
  • The system size eligibility for net-metering is capped at the consumer's sanctioned load (in kW), as per MSEDCL rules.

The MSEDCL workflow for a new rooftop solar system involves four broad steps: application submission with technical specifications and feasibility documents, technical feasibility check by MSEDCL engineers, installation and inspection by the licensee, and finally the bidirectional net-meter swap. Heaven Green Energy coordinates this entire process for every Sambhajinagar customer.

03 · System Types

On-grid, off-grid, and hybrid: which one for your Sambhajinagar home?

Solar rooftop systems come in three core configurations. The right choice for a Sambhajinagar home depends on your grid reliability, whether you want backup, and your investment horizon.

System TypeHow it worksBest for
On-gridSolar feeds the home, surplus exports to the grid via net-metering. No battery. Stops generating during a grid outage. Most Sambhajinagar homes with reliable grid supply, eligible for PM Surya Ghar subsidy.
Off-gridSolar feeds the home, surplus charges a battery for night use. No grid connection. Standalone.Remote farmhouses or sites without a reliable grid, not eligible for net-metering.
HybridSolar feeds the home, surplus charges a battery, and excess can still be exported to the grid. Provides backup during outages.Homes that want power-cut backup along with grid export benefits.

For the typical Sambhajinagar home connected to the grid, an on-grid system is the most economical choice. It qualifies for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, has the simplest BoS (no batteries), and has the fastest payback. A hybrid system makes sense if reliable backup during power cuts matters to the household.

04 · Components

What's inside your Sambhajinagar solar system

A grid-tied rooftop solar system installed by Heaven Green Energy in Sambhajinagar is built from five core component categories. Quality at each layer is what separates a system that runs well for 25 years from one that under-performs in five.

  • Solar panels (modules): we install Adani Solar modules as an authorized distributor. Adani Solar is India's largest solar PV manufacturer, and modules ship with the manufacturer's standard product warranty and a long-term linear performance warranty.
  • Solar inverter: converts DC from the panels into AC for your home. Heaven Green Energy manufactures its own inverter brand, Qbits, in-house. We also install other Tier-1 brands depending on the project.
  • Mounting structure: galvanized iron (GI) or aluminium structure engineered for wind and dead-load conditions.
  • Balance of System (BoS): DC and AC cables, MC4 connectors, AC and DC isolators, surge protection, earthing kit, and protective switchgear. The "invisible" half of the system that determines safety and longevity.
  • Net-meter: a bidirectional energy meter installed by your distribution licensee (MSEDCL) during commissioning that measures both consumption and export.

Every system also gets a digital monitoring interface (usually via the inverter manufacturer's app) so you can check daily generation against your usage.

05 · Sizing

Choosing the right system size for your home

System sizing in Sambhajinagar is driven by three inputs: your monthly electricity usage, your usable rooftop area, and your sanctioned load with your distribution licensee. A reasonable rule of thumb is that 1 kW of rooftop solar in this region generates roughly 4 to 4.5 units per day on average, varying by season and the orientation of your rooftop. The exact yield depends on shading, tilt, panel make, and inverter efficiency, and is finalised after a site survey.

Three things to keep in mind:

  • Match generation to consumption. Oversizing beyond what you typically consume yields diminishing returns under net-metering, because excess exports are settled annually.
  • Don't undersize and miss subsidy. The PM Surya Ghar subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 for any system 3 kW and above, so a system designed in the 3 kW range hits the subsidy sweet spot for many Sambhajinagar homes.
  • Check sanctioned load. Net-metering eligibility is capped at the consumer's sanctioned load. If your sanctioned load is 3 kW, you can't install a 10 kW system without a load enhancement application.

Sambhajinagar's sanctioned-load limits and MSEDCL feasibility constraints are checked during your free site survey so the recommended system fits the PM Surya Ghar 3 kW subsidy sweet spot where it makes financial sense.

06 · Commercial

Commercial & industrial solar in Sambhajinagar

Sambhajinagar's industrial profile is anchored by Waluj MIDC and Shendra MIDC, with major presence across auto components, two-wheeler and four-wheeler manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, breweries, and engineering. For Sambhajinagar's commercial and industrial users, rooftop and ground-mount solar deliver three layers of financial benefit beyond the residential model:

  • Accelerated depreciation. Under the Income Tax Act, solar PV equipment is eligible for accelerated depreciation, allowing businesses to write off a significant portion of the asset value in the first year, which materially improves post-tax IRR.
  • OPEX or RESCO models. For businesses that prefer not to invest upfront capital, third-party-owned models let you buy solar electricity at a fixed per-unit rate below the prevailing DISCOM HT or LT tariff, with the developer financing and owning the system.
  • Captive use under open access. For larger industrial loads, group captive and open-access solar through MERC's framework can deliver significant tariff savings beyond what rooftop solar alone provides.

Heaven Green Energy delivers turnkey EPC for Sambhajinagar C&I customers across all three models: CAPEX, OPEX / RESCO, and group captive, with full handling of MSETCL and MERC approvals and net-metering or net-billing registration as applicable.

07 · Warranty

Warranty, ownership, and the 25-year lifecycle

A rooftop solar system is a 25-year asset, not a one-time purchase. What ownership looks like over that horizon depends entirely on three things: the warranty terms on each component, the post-installation service model, and how the system is monitored.

  • Solar panels typically carry a product warranty (against manufacturing defects) and a separate performance warranty (linear degradation against rated output). Tier-1 panels like Adani Solar carry long-term performance warranties published by the manufacturer.
  • Inverters typically carry a standard 5-year warranty, extendable to 10 years with most manufacturers, including Heaven Green Energy's in-house Qbits brand.
  • Mounting structure and BoS warranties vary by vendor. On-site workmanship is covered by Heaven Green Energy's installation guarantee.

Annual maintenance (panel cleaning, inverter health check, generation audit) keeps actual generation close to design over the asset life.

08 · Choosing a Vendor

How to choose a solar vendor

Most homeowners in Sambhajinagar are evaluating solar for the first time. Here are the questions that separate a good vendor from a risky one.

Are they an empanelled vendor on the PM Surya Ghar National Portal?

Subsidy claims are only processed for systems installed by empanelled vendors.

Is the company itself the EPC, or are they a sales agent?

A sales agent passes the project to a third-party installer, and accountability gets diluted. Heaven Green Energy is the EPC and the manufacturer of its inverter brand.

Which panel brand will they install, and is it traceable?

Tier-1 manufacturer panels with serial numbers and a digital warranty record protect you for 25 years.

Who handles the DISCOM net-metering and PM Surya Ghar paperwork?

The right answer is "we do, end-to-end." Anything less means you'll be making trips to a DISCOM office.

What is the after-sales structure?

A local service relationship is materially better than a distant call-centre.

What does the proposal include?

A serious proposal has a detailed Bill of Materials (BoM), expected annual generation, payback math, and warranty schedule, not just a single total price.

Key takeaways for Sambhajinagar

  • The PM Surya Ghar subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 for residential systems 3 kW and above. Most Sambhajinagar homes fit comfortably into the 3 to 5 kW band.
  • Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad, renamed in 2023) is served by MSEDCL, the state distribution licensee. Net-metering is governed by MERC's framework. We handle the full MSEDCL application on your behalf.
  • An on-grid system is the most economical choice for most Sambhajinagar homes. Hybrid systems are worth considering if power-cut backup matters to your household.
  • Always insist on Tier-1 panels (we install Adani Solar), a written Bill of Materials, and a documented warranty schedule from any vendor you evaluate.
  • For Waluj and Shendra MIDC commercial and industrial users in auto, pharma, and engineering, accelerated depreciation and OPEX / RESCO models can substantially improve project economics beyond the residential subsidy framework.
