Understanding the Numbers

How to Read Your Results

Every figure in your solar estimate has a specific meaning. Here is a plain-English guide to each metric.

Recommended System Size (kW)

The capacity of the solar array needed to offset your monthly consumption. 1 kW of solar generates roughly 90–120 units/month in India depending on your city.

Estimated Monthly Savings (₹)

How much your electricity bill is expected to reduce after going solar. This factors in your current per-unit tariff and local peak sun hours.

System Cost Before Subsidy

The total installed cost of panels, inverter, mounting structure, wiring, and installation at current market rates.

PM Surya Ghar Subsidy

The central government subsidy for residential rooftop solar: ₹30,000/kW for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000/kW for the 3rd kW, capped at ₹78,000.

Net Cost After Subsidy

Your actual out-of-pocket cost after the government subsidy is deducted. This is the figure to compare with your cumulative electricity bill savings.

Payback Period

The number of years it takes for your cumulative electricity savings to equal your net investment. After this point, every rupee saved is pure return.

Lifetime Savings (25 Years)

The total electricity cost you avoid over the standard 25-year panel life. This accounts for annual electricity tariff escalation of ~5%.

CO₂ Avoided

The carbon dioxide emissions your system avoids by displacing coal-based grid electricity. Every kWh of solar saves approximately 0.82 kg of CO₂ in India.

Calculator & Savings FAQs

Everything you need to know before going solar.

Still have questions?
How accurate is the solar savings calculator?
Our calculator uses your monthly electricity bill, your city's average peak sun hours, current solar panel efficiency ratings, and live government subsidy rates to produce an estimate. In our experience, real-world savings come within 10–15% of the calculator's figures. Your actual savings depend on final system sizing, roof orientation, local DISCOM tariffs, and net metering settlement, all of which our engineers fine-tune during the free site assessment.
What is "peak sun hours" and why does my city matter?
Peak sun hours (PSH) is the number of hours per day when sunlight intensity is strong enough to produce rated power output from a solar panel. Jaipur and Delhi average 5.5–6 PSH; Mumbai and Chennai average 5–5.5 PSH; Bangalore averages 4.5–5 PSH. A city with higher PSH produces more electricity from the same panel size, which means better savings and a shorter payback period. Our calculator factors in city-specific PSH data for 200+ Indian cities.
The calculator shows a large system size. Can I install a smaller system?
Absolutely. The calculator recommends the optimal system size to offset your entire bill, but you can install any size that fits your budget or rooftop. Even a 1 kW or 2 kW system meaningfully reduces your bill. During our free consultation, our engineers will walk you through different size-vs-savings scenarios so you can pick the right balance for your situation.
Does the calculator include the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
Yes. For residential systems, our calculator automatically applies the current PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana subsidy rates: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 per kW for the 3rd kW, capped at ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. The "Net Cost After Subsidy" figure you see is what you would actually pay. Heaven Green Energy handles the entire subsidy application on your behalf, you do not have to interact with the government portal.
