ACDB & DCDB Distribution Boxes

Two protection boxes, both manufactured in-house by Heaven Green Energy, covering the DC and AC sides of every solar installation.

AC Side Protection

ACDB Box

AC Distribution Box

AC (Inverter → Grid)

The ACDB (AC Distribution Box) sits between the solar inverter's AC output and the main distribution board. It houses the AC MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker), AC SPD (Surge Protection Device), and output terminals — providing the first line of overcurrent and overvoltage protection on the AC side. Heaven Green Energy manufactures ACDB boxes in-house, allowing us to tailor the component rating to each inverter's exact output capacity.

DC Side Protection

DCDB Box

DC Distribution Box

DC (Panels → Inverter)

The DCDB (DC Distribution Box) sits between the solar panel strings and the inverter DC input. It consolidates multiple panel strings, provides individual fuse protection for each string, and houses the DC SPD (Surge Protection Device) that shields the inverter from lightning strikes and switching transients. Like our ACDB, the Heaven Green Energy DCDB is manufactured in-house, with fuse ratings matched to the panel string short-circuit current of each specific project.

Specifications

Manufacturer Heaven Green Energy Limited
Enclosure IP65 Weatherproof ABS / MS
String Fuses Matched to panel Isc × 1.25
SPD Class II DC Surge Protection Device
DC Voltage Rating Up to 1000V / 1500V DC
String Inputs 2 to 8 strings (project specific)

Features

  • In-house manufactured — custom string count and fuse ratings per project
  • IP65 weatherproof enclosure suitable for rooftop mounting
  • Individual string fuses prevent one faulty string from affecting others
  • Class II DC SPD absorbs lightning transients before they reach the inverter
  • DC disconnect switch for safe maintenance isolation

What Are ACDB & DCDB Boxes — and Why Do They Matter?

Protection boxes are not optional add-ons. They are the safety and compliance backbone of every grid-tied solar system in India.

What is an ACDB?

An ACDB (AC Distribution Box) is the protective switchgear assembly placed between a solar inverter's AC output terminals and the main electrical distribution board. It provides overcurrent protection (via MCB), surge protection (via SPD), and a safe isolation point for maintenance. Every grid-tied solar installation in India requires an ACDB to comply with CEA guidelines and pass DISCOM net-metering inspection.

What is a DCDB?

A DCDB (DC Distribution Box) is the protective assembly between solar panel strings and the inverter's DC input. It combines string fuse protection, a DC surge protection device, and a DC isolation switch. In systems with multiple panel strings, the DCDB prevents a fault in one string from propagating to others and provides the first surge protection layer closest to the panels — where lightning risk is highest.

Why Are They Mandatory?

CEA (Central Electricity Authority) guidelines for solar installations, referenced in DISCOM net-metering technical requirements across Gujarat, mandate protective switchgear on both the DC and AC sides. PGVCL, UGVCL, DGVCL, and MGVCL inspectors check for proper ACDB and DCDB installation during commissioning. Missing or undersized protection boxes are the most common cause of net-metering inspection failure.

ACDB vs DCDB — The Difference

ACDB protects the AC output side using standard AC MCBs and AC-rated SPDs (which handle AC voltage characteristics). DCDB protects the DC input side using DC-rated fuses and DC-rated SPDs (DC fuses and SPDs must handle higher arc energy and cannot be substituted with AC components). Using AC fuses or MCBs on the DC side is a safety hazard that Heaven Green Energy never permits in any installation.

Why In-House Manufacturing

The Advantage of Building Our Own Distribution Boxes

Most solar installers source ACDB and DCDB boxes from third-party suppliers and accept whatever ratings are in stock. Heaven Green Energy manufactures its own — because your protection equipment should match your system exactly.

Ratings Matched to Every Project

Off-the-shelf ACDB and DCDB boxes use generic component ratings that may over- or under-protect specific inverter models. Because we manufacture in-house, the MCB, fuse, and SPD ratings in every box are matched to the exact inverter capacity and string configuration of that project — not a generic catalogue standard.

Quality Control We Own

Third-party sourced distribution boxes go through supply chains that can compromise component quality. Our in-house boxes use brand-name MCBs, certified SPDs, and tinned copper busbars — assembled and tested by our own electrical team before dispatch. Every box is checked for correct torque, insulation resistance, and labelling before it leaves our facility.

Fast Availability for B2B Orders

In-house manufacturing means we are not dependent on third-party lead times. EPC contractors and project developers can place bulk ACDB/DCDB orders with us and get fast dispatch from our Surat facility. Custom string counts and voltage ratings are available for larger commercial and industrial projects.

Documentation for DISCOM

Every ACDB and DCDB we supply comes with component datasheets, wiring diagrams, and test certificates as part of the project documentation file. This makes DISCOM net-metering submissions faster and reduces the chance of inspection queries about protection equipment specifications.

FAQ

ACDB & DCDB — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before going solar.

Still have questions?
Is an ACDB and DCDB box required for all solar installations in Gujarat?
Yes. PGVCL, UGVCL, DGVCL, and MGVCL all require proper ACDB and DCDB installation as per CEA guidelines for grid-tied solar systems. During the net-metering inspection, the inspector physically checks that these protection boxes are present, correctly rated, and properly installed. Missing or inadequate protection is the most common reason for inspection failure and delayed approvals.
Can I use a normal AC MCB box as the ACDB for my solar system?
A standard domestic distribution board is not equivalent to a dedicated ACDB. A proper solar ACDB includes a Class II SPD (Surge Protection Device) rated for solar system voltages, which standard household DBs do not contain. The SPD is critical for protecting the inverter from lightning-induced transients — a real risk for rooftop systems in Gujarat's monsoon season. Our ACDB boxes include both the MCB and SPD in a single IP65-rated enclosure designed for solar installations.
How many string inputs does a DCDB box accommodate?
Heaven Green Energy manufactures DCDB boxes with 2 to 8 string inputs depending on the project requirement. The number of strings depends on your panel count and inverter MPPT configuration. For a standard 5kW residential system this is typically 2 strings. For large commercial systems with multiple MPPT inputs, we manufacture DCDBs with the exact string count required. Contact us with your system design and we will specify the right DCDB.
Do you supply ACDB and DCDB boxes to other EPC installers?
Yes. Heaven Green Energy supplies in-house manufactured ACDB and DCDB boxes to other EPC contractors and solar installers across India. We offer competitive pricing on bulk orders and can manufacture custom configurations for large projects. Call +91 90811 00296 or fill the contact form below with your requirements.
