A Solar Monkey review written from India needs to answer a question the Dutch market already settled: why does a residential installer in a country with 900 or so kWh per kWp a year need software that costs more per month than most global platforms charge per seat? The answer is that Solar Monkey is not sold as a design tool. It is sold as a sales machine for maritime climate rooftops, and it publishes a price to match. The Calculate and Sell package lists at 525 euro per month including 50 projects, which is a real number on a real page rather than a quote request. Founded in 2015 by three TU Delft engineers and incubated at YES!Delft, it merged with the Swiss company Eturnity in March 2026. We have benchmarked it against imported platforms while writing our Netherlands market pages at Heaven Green Energy, and the verdict is that it earns the price in exactly one market and struggles to justify it outside.
Direct answer. Solar Monkey lists its Calculate and Sell package at 525 euro per month including 50 projects, with API integration at 95 euro per month extra and a 14 day free trial. Built in Delft since 2015 for Dutch residential installers, it merged with Eturnity in March 2026 to serve more than 2,000 installers across 8 or more European countries. It scores 36 of 50 on our bench.
This review evaluates Solar Monkey as a purchase decision. What Solar Monkey Is
Solar Monkey is a B2B quotation and design platform for energy installers, published by a company founded in the Netherlands in 2015 by three engineers from TU Delft. Its about page describes the founding team and the company’s European footprint, and the algorithms behind the yield calculation were developed by the company itself with support from TU Delft.
The product’s centre of gravity is the quote, not the drawing. Solar Monkey’s own site describes the workflow as design and calculate, compare options, and share the quote for approval, covering solar panels, batteries, heat pumps, EV chargers and air conditioning. The marketing claims are specific and worth quoting rather than paraphrasing: trusted by more than 500 installation companies, a customer rating of 9.2, an accurate calculation and quote in 90 seconds, an average 24 percent higher win rate, a new colleague fully trained in an hour, and up to 80 percent time saved per project. Those are vendor claims and we treat them as such, but they tell you exactly what the company thinks it sells.
In March 2026 the business changed shape. Solar Monkey and Eturnity, a Swiss installer software company founded in 2012, announced a merger on 25 March 2026. The joint announcement puts the combined reach at more than 2,000 installers across 8 or more European countries, with fresh capital from Klima in Spain, Junction in Belgium, Eneco Ventures in the Netherlands and Helen in Finland. The press release does not name a combined corporate entity, so we are not going to assert one. What it may mean for a buyer is that the roadmap now spans Eturnity’s heavier engineering and project management workflow alongside Solar Monkey’s fast quoting. Any merger of two product lines carries integration questions, and we would put those to the vendor before signing a long commitment.

Thirty six is a high score and it comes almost entirely from the sales axis. Solar Monkey is what happens when a design tool is built backwards from the moment a homeowner signs, rather than forwards from a simulation engine. That choice costs it points on documentation and gains it more than it loses.
Verdict. If you are a Dutch, Belgian or German residential installer running real volume, Solar Monkey is worth its price and the payback comes from close rate rather than from design time. If you do fewer than roughly 30 projects a month, or your deliverable is a permit set or a finance-grade P90 yield report, the arithmetic does not work.

Two honest caveats. The pricing page states that alternative fixed price options are available by contacting sales, so the list price is a starting point rather than a ceiling or a floor. And the per project overage rate is not publicly listed, so we are not going to estimate it.
💰 Real numbers
At the full 50 projects, €525 a month is €10.50 per quote. At 10 projects it is €52.50 per quote. Solar Monkey is priced for volume, and the same licence is either cheap or expensive depending entirely on how busy your sales team is.
That per project arithmetic is the single most useful thing in this review. We call it the Quote Cost Test, and it is the framework we apply to every volume priced platform: divide the monthly licence by the number of quotes you genuinely send in a month, then compare that figure to your gross margin per closed job and your current close rate. If Solar Monkey’s claimed 24 percent win rate improvement held even at half strength, an installer sending 50 quotes a month at a typical residential margin recovers €525 from a single extra closed job. An installer sending 8 quotes a month does not.
Note that this figure disagrees with an earlier range on our own Netherlands ranking page, which described Solar Monkey as roughly €100 to €250 per user per month. The published price is a package price with a project allowance, not a per seat price, and the vendor’s own page is what we are using here.
What Solar Monkey Does Best
Speed to a sendable quote. The company claims an accurate calculation and quote in 90 seconds, and while that is a marketing number, the underlying design choice is real. Address in, aerial imagery loads, roof planes and obstructions are detected automatically, panels are placed, shading is computed against surrounding buildings and trees, tariff logic applies, and a customer ready document comes out the other end. Nothing in that chain waits for a designer to draw a rectangle. For a company whose constraint is how many homes a salesperson can visit in a week, that is the whole game.
A yield model precise enough to guarantee against. This is the genuinely distinctive claim in the Dutch market. Solar Monkey’s positioning has long been that its calculated output is accurate enough that installers can offer their customers an output guarantee, backed in the Netherlands through a guarantee arrangement. We could not verify the current guarantee arrangement on Solar Monkey’s own pages during this review, so treat the specific fund structure as unconfirmed. What is verifiable is the design intent: the algorithms were developed in house with TU Delft support specifically to produce a defensible number for a Dutch roof.
Why that matters technically is the maritime climate. In a place with roughly 900 to 1,000 kWh per kWp a year, a large share of annual production arrives as diffuse rather than direct irradiance. A model tuned for a desert, where direct beam dominates, will systematically mis-handle a cloudy North Sea year. Multi technology bundling. Solar Monkey quotes solar panels, batteries, heat pumps, EV chargers and air conditioning in one document. In markets where a homeowner is electrifying the whole house at once, quoting the bundle beats quoting the panels and losing the heat pump to somebody else. Few of the pure solar design tools on our bench do this, and the Eturnity merger points further in that direction.

Where Solar Monkey Falls Short

The price only works at volume. A package including 50 projects a month is priced for a busy residential operation. Below roughly 30 quotes a month the per quote cost climbs past what most global platforms charge per seat, and the overage rate beyond 50 is not published.

Regional depth is also regional limitation. The tariff logic, the building data and the document conventions are tuned to a handful of European markets. Outside them the advantage that justifies the price disappears, and you are paying premium money for a residential design tool.

No stamped permit output that we could find. We saw no drafted, dimensioned single line diagram and no plan set for an authority submission in the product as of August 2026. Anything requiring an engineer's signature happens in another tool.

Not a probabilistic yield report. The output is a customer quote rather than a P50, P75 and P90 report. Where a financier specifies that methodology, the work still routes through a simulation platform.

Residential rooftop scope. We found no terrain modelling, no ground mount row optimisation and no utility scale path. The tool is deliberately narrow and its own marketing does not claim otherwise.

Post merger unknowns. The Eturnity merger was announced in March 2026. Two products, two roadmaps and two customer bases now sit under one plan, and a buyer signing an annual commitment has no published detail yet on how they converge. Ask the vendor.
⚠️ Watch out
Ask for the per project overage rate in writing before you sign. A package priced on 50 projects punishes a seasonal business that does 80 in June and 20 in December, unless the overage is cheap.

The reader for whom Solar Monkey beats everything else, including SurgePV, is the Dutch or Belgian residential installer running 50 or more quotes a month with a small sales team and no in house engineering department. For that firm, the imported alternatives we compared did a weaker job on the thing that decides the sale, which is producing a document a Dutch homeowner recognises and signs. Retraining that team onto a global platform to save a few hundred euro a month would be a bad trade, and we say so on our Netherlands solar proposal software page too.
Who Should Not
The obvious group is everyone outside its home markets. Solar Monkey’s advantage is regional depth, and regional depth does not travel. An installer in Gujarat, Texas or New South Wales buying Solar Monkey is paying a premium for building data and tariff logic that do not describe their market.
The less obvious group is the Dutch installer moving up into commercial. Solar Monkey is excellent at the residential quote and its own marketing does not present it as a commercial engineering platform. The moment your pipeline includes a 400 kW industrial roof with a netcongestie queue, a financed structure and an authority submission, the tool that closes homeowners is not the tool that closes that deal. Run a simulation platform alongside it before the tender arrives rather than after. Solar Monkey vs SurgePV
Disclosure, stated plainly. Heaven Green Energy runs SurgePV on its own EPC work, and SurgePV is a sister product inside the Heaven Group. That is first hand operating experience and it is also a commercial interest. Both are true, so SurgePV’s weaknesses sit in the same table rather than in a footnote.

The honest summary: inside Dutch residential, Solar Monkey is the better commercial instrument and the price gap is not the deciding factor. Outside it, SurgePV covers more ground for less money and produces document types that Solar Monkey does not set out to produce. A Dutch firm doing both residential volume and occasional commercial work can rationally run both, which is not a conclusion you should expect from a sales call on either side.
How Heaven Green Energy Uses This In Practice
We do not sell in the Netherlands, so our contact with Solar Monkey is as a benchmark rather than a production tool. When we built our Dutch market pages we ran comparable residential roofs through several platforms, and the thing that stood out was not the yield number, which was close across tools. It was the document. The Solar Monkey output looked like something a Dutch homeowner had seen before, and the imported tools produced documents that read as translated. That is a real competitive moat and it is almost invisible in a feature comparison table.
The lesson transfers directly to India. The reason our own proposals close is not that our irradiance model is better than a competitor’s. It is that the document names the actual DISCOM, shows the PM Surya Ghar subsidy correctly, and uses the tariff slab the customer recognises from their own bill. On a recent 6 kW Surat rooftop, the customer told us plainly that they picked us because ours was the only quote that showed the sanctioned load check. Solar Monkey figured this out for the Netherlands a decade ago.
Everything structural still leaves any of these tools.
