Rooftop solar for factories in Sachin GIDC.

Your shed roof in Sachin GIDC can carry a plant that runs during the same daylight hours your machines do. We are based at Mota Varachha in Surat, an authorised channel partner of Adani for modules, with Qbits inverters. We survey the roof, design the plant, file the DGVCL papers and maintain it afterwards.

The short answer

A factory in Sachin GIDC can put solar on its own shed roof and offset daytime grid units billed by DGVCL. Each kilowatt produces 4 to 4.5 units a day here, so a 100 kW plant makes about 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year. There is no PM Surya Ghar subsidy for factories. The firm claims 40% accelerated depreciation instead. Plants above 25 kW are priced after a load study.

The estate

What Sachin GIDC is, and why its roofs suit solar

Sachin is a GIDC estate in the southern part of Surat district, on the Surat to Navsari side. It is a working manufacturing estate, so the useful question is what your unit draws during daylight and what your roof can carry.

GIDC lists Sachin among its Surat estates, and lists the Apparel Park at Sachin separately as an SEZ. The two are not the same thing for electricity purposes, which matters later in this page. Wikipedia describes Sachin as the southernmost town of Surat district, lying south of Udhna on the twin-city road towards Navsari, with railway and highway links that brought industry to it.

For you, the estate's character shows up on the roof and on the bill. Most units run on long-span sheds with metal sheeting, built for production rather than for extra dead load. Your licensee is DGVCL. Its directory on the Surat district site lists a Sachin (Hojiwala) sub-division office inside the Hojiwala Industrial Estate. The same directory lists a Surat (Industries) division office on the Udhna to Bhestan road.

We do not publish a list of who operates inside the estate, and you should be wary of any installer who claims a named client there without proof. What we can tell you is how a plant gets sized against your own load, roof and sanctioned demand. That is the rest of this page.

Process lines that run from morning to evening

If your unit runs dyeing, processing, printing or finishing machines through the day shift, the load curve sits under the solar curve. Most of what the plant generates is consumed on site the moment it is made, which is the cleanest case for rooftop solar in any estate.

Motor-heavy machinery and compressors

Looms, pumps, compressors and conveyors draw steady power while the shift runs. Solar offsets that base draw without touching your switchgear logic. We check starting currents and power factor at survey, because a plant sized only on monthly units can miss what the motors actually need.

Cooling, chilling and stores

Chillers, air handling and cold rooms peak in the hot afternoon months when generation is strongest. Gujarat summers are when these loads bite, and they are when the plant performs best, so the match is good even on a modest roof.

Single-shift workshops and warehouses

A unit that shuts down at weekends or runs one light shift will export more than it uses on some days. That changes the sizing: we cap the plant to what your daytime load and the current GERC banking terms make worthwhile, rather than to the full roof.

How the numbers work

How the numbers work for a factory, in units

Factory solar is sized in units consumed during daylight, not in rupees saved. We will not quote you a saving off a web page, because it depends on your tariff category, demand charges and how much of the output you use on site.

Start with daylight units. Each kilowatt on a clear, shadow-free Sachin roof produces 4 to 4.5 units a day across the year. A 100 kW plant therefore makes about 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year, and a 250 kW plant about 3.65 to 4.1 lakh. Lay that against the units your meter records between roughly nine and five, and you see how much of the output you will consume directly.

Sanctioned load and contract demand set the ceiling. DGVCL approves a rooftop plant against what your connection is sanctioned for, so a plant cannot simply fill the roof. Solar also reduces units, not necessarily your recorded maximum demand, because a cloudy hour can still see the machines draw full power from the grid. We read twelve months of your bills before we size anything.

Tax does the work the subsidy does for homes. PM Surya Ghar is for residential consumers only, so your factory claims 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. Since 22 Sep 2025, GST is 5% on solar equipment and 18% on the service share, taken as 30% of a supply-and-install contract, which blends to about 8.9%. At 25 kW the indicative installed market band is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, about ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Larger plants are priced after a load study, because structure, cabling distance and metering change the cost per kW.

Generation from verified Gujarat constants (4 to 4.5 units per kW per day)
Plant sizeUnits a year
25 kW36,500 – 41,063
50 kW73,000 – 82,125
100 kW1,46,000 – 1,64,250
250 kW3,65,000 – 4,10,625
500 kW7,30,000 – 8,21,250

Indicative installed cost at 25 kW: ₹10.75–13.50 lakh (market range, not a quotation). Larger plants are priced after a load study of your bills and roof.

Engineering a plant on a Sachin shed roof

The shed decides the design before the panels do. Three checks come first: what the roof can hold, how the array stays safe in wind and fire, and how the plant joins your switchgear.

Roof sheeting, purlins and dead load

Long-span sheds are designed for sheeting and wind, not for an array. We measure purlin size and spacing, check the sheet profile and its age, and calculate the added dead load. Where purlins are light we propose strengthening or a lighter rail layout before you commit, not after the crane arrives.

Wind, walkways and fire access

Fixing goes into purlins, not just the sheet, with sealing at every penetration so the roof stays watertight through the monsoon. We leave walkways for cleaning and maintenance, keep clear access around skylights and vents, and earth the structure. Lightning protection is designed for the roof height and layout.

Inverters, protection and the DGVCL interface

Qbits inverters are placed near the main panel to keep AC runs short. The design includes DC and AC isolators, surge protection, earthing pits and the metering arrangement DGVCL needs. For an HT connection the interface sits on the LT side behind your transformer, and we document it for the licensee's inspection.

DGVCL

Approvals: who does what.

Your plant needs DGVCL's approval before it is connected, and the paperwork moves faster when the drawings match what is built. We prepare every document and attend the inspection.

1

Load study and single-line diagram

We read your bills, sanctioned load and connection type, survey the roof, then prepare the plant size, layout and single-line diagram. This is the file DGVCL reviews, so it must be correct before submission.

Us
2

Rooftop application to the licensee

We file the application with your consumer number, plant rating, diagram and equipment datasheets. DGVCL checks the request against your sanctioned load and the feeder, and issues its approval or asks for changes.

Us, then DGVCL
3

Installation and electrical safety clearance

We install to the approved design, then compile test reports, earthing results and protection settings. Where the rules for your plant size require an Electrical Inspectorate clearance, we prepare and pursue that file as well.

Us
4

Inspection, metering and commissioning

DGVCL inspects the installation and fits or certifies the meters for the plant. Once the connection is energised, generation starts counting on your bill. Our engineer is on site for the inspection so queries are closed the same day.

DGVCL
Paying for it

Three ways to fund the plant.

Three ways to pay for a factory plant. Pick the one that matches your tax position and how you treat capital spending.

Own it outright (capex)

Your firm buys the plant, books it as an asset and claims 40% accelerated depreciation in the first year it is put to use. This suits a profitable, taxpaying unit with a clean balance sheet. You keep all the generation, and our AMC covers cleaning schedules, inspections and inverter health.

Business loan or equipment finance

Banks and NBFCs lend against solar plants for MSMEs, and you still own the asset for depreciation. We supply the quotation, bill of materials and generation estimate that lenders ask for. The lender, not us, sets the rate and tenure, so compare offers on the full cost.

OPEX or RESCO arrangement

A third party owns the plant on your roof and you pay for the units it delivers. You spend no capital, but you do not claim depreciation either. Read the contract for tenure, buy-out terms and roof access before you sign, because those clauses last as long as the plant.

Where we work from

Heaven Green Energy has one office, at Mota Varachha in Surat. Sachin GIDC sits in the same district, so the survey, installation supervision and DGVCL inspection visits are handled by our own Surat engineering team rather than a distant partner. If that ever changes for your project, we will say so before you sign.

01

Bills and first call · Day 1

You share twelve months of bills and the plot details. We check connection type, sanctioned load and daytime consumption, and tell you plainly whether the roof is worth surveying at all.

02

Roof and load survey · Week 1

An engineer measures the shed, purlins, shading and cable routes, and inspects the main panel. Where useful we log the load for a few days to see the real daytime curve.

03

Design and proposal · Week 2

You receive the layout, single-line diagram, bill of materials with makes and quantities, and the generation estimate in units. The price follows from this design, not from a rate card.

04

Approvals and installation · Weeks 3 to 8

We file with DGVCL, procure Adani modules and Qbits inverters, and install around your production schedule. Roof work is planned so the shed stays sealed and lines keep running.

05

Inspection, commissioning, O&M · After approval

DGVCL inspects and the plant is connected. We hand over test reports and warranties, set up monitoring, and start the maintenance schedule agreed in the contract.

Six things to check with any vendor.

  1. Sachin GIDC units are served by DGVCL, through its Surat (Industries) division and Sachin sub-divisions. Units in the Sachin SEZs should confirm the licensee on their own bill.
  2. Each kilowatt makes 4 to 4.5 units a day, so a 100 kW plant produces about 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year.
  3. Factories get no PM Surya Ghar subsidy. They claim 40% accelerated depreciation on the plant instead.
  4. GST on a supply-and-install contract blends to about 8.9%: 5% on equipment and 18% on the 30% service share.
  5. Plant size is capped by your sanctioned load and shaped by daytime consumption, not by roof area alone.
  6. Shed purlins and sheeting are checked at survey, and plants above 25 kW are priced only after a load study.
Questions

Industrial solar in Sachin GIDC, answered.

Cost & output

How much does a rooftop solar plant cost for a factory in Sachin GIDC?
At 25 kW the indicative installed market band in Gujarat is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, about ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Larger plants are priced after a load study, because structure, purlin work, cable runs and metering change the cost. We send a written bill of materials with every quotation.
How many units will a 100 kW plant generate in Sachin?
About 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year. That comes from 4 to 4.5 units per kW per day on a shadow-free roof. Monsoon months produce less and summer months more, so expect seasonal swings around that annual figure. We put the monthly estimate in your proposal.
Will solar reduce my factory's demand charges as well as units?
Not reliably. Solar reduces the units you buy from DGVCL, but your recorded maximum demand can still occur during a cloudy hour or an evening shift. Plan on unit reduction as the main benefit. We read your demand history before sizing so expectations match what the meter will show.

Licensee & approvals

Is Sachin GIDC served by DGVCL or Torrent Power?
DGVCL. The Surat district directory lists DGVCL's Surat (Industries) division and a Sachin (Hojiwala) sub-division office inside the Hojiwala Industrial Estate. Torrent Power's Surat licence covers part of Surat city itself. Units inside the Sachin SEZs should check the licensee named on their own bill before applying.
What does DGVCL need before it connects a factory rooftop plant?
An application with your consumer number, plant rating, single-line diagram and equipment datasheets, followed by an inspection of the finished plant. DGVCL checks the size against your sanctioned load and the feeder. We prepare the file, answer queries and attend the inspection with you.
Who decides the net metering or banking terms for an industrial plant?
The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission, through its regulations, read with the Gujarat Solar Power Policy. Neither DGVCL nor any installer sets them. Because the terms differ by consumer category and plant type, we confirm the current rules for your connection in writing before we finalise the size.

Roof & engineering

Can a metal shed roof in Sachin GIDC carry solar panels?
Usually, but it must be checked. We measure purlin size and spacing, sheet profile and condition, then calculate the added dead load. Where purlins are light we propose strengthening or a lighter layout. A survey that skips the purlins is not a survey.
Will drilling into the shed cause leaks in the monsoon?
Not if fixings go into purlins and every penetration is sealed properly. We use sealing washers and compatible sealant at each point and check the run of the sheet before fixing. If the roof sheeting is already near the end of its life, we tell you to replace it first.
My unit has an HT connection. Does that change the design?
Yes. On an HT connection the plant usually connects on the LT side behind your transformer, and the protection, metering and drawings must reflect that. We document the interface for DGVCL's review and set protection so the plant isolates correctly when the grid side trips.

Finance & tax

Can my factory claim the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
No. PM Surya Ghar is for residential consumers. A factory claims 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules instead. Ask your chartered accountant how it applies to your firm's tax position before you choose between capex and OPEX.
What GST applies to a factory solar plant?
Since 22 Sep 2025, GST is 5% on solar equipment and 18% on services. In a supply-and-install contract the service share is taken as 30%, so the blended rate is about 8.9%. A registered business may be able to claim input tax credit, which your accountant should confirm.
