The short answer
Rooftop solar in Nagpur costs roughly ₹62,000 to ₹78,000 per kW before subsidy. A 3 kW system runs about ₹1.85 lakh to ₹2.32 lakh, falling to ₹1.07 lakh to ₹1.54 lakh after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy. Each kW yields 4 to 4.5 units a day here. MSEDCL, trading as Mahavitaran, handles Nagpur net metering. Payback lands between three and a half and five years.

Indicative Nagpur market ranges for 2026, covering Tier-1 modules, a branded inverter, galvanised structure, protection and installation. These are not a Heaven Green quotation. Subsidy amounts are the central PM Surya Ghar figures published on pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Generation assumes a shadow-free, roughly south-facing roof.
The 3 kW cliff decides your economics. Nothing is paid above 3 kW, so the subsidy covers 34 to 42% of a 3 kW system but only 12 to 15% of a 10 kW one. If your bill sits between the 3 kW and 5 kW rows, the smaller array returns more rupees per rupee spent. Size against the units printed on your MSEDCL bill, not the amount, because units are what an array actually cancels.
A cheap Nagpur quote is cheap in the steel, not the glass. Galvanising thickness, cable gauge, earthing and surge protection separate the bottom of each band from the top. Ask for a written Bill of Materials naming make, model and quantity for every item. Without one you are comparing two numbers, not two systems.
Nagpur-specific warning: ask what clearance the structure gives you. Summer here runs past 45°C for days at a stretch, and a flush-mounted array bakes. A quote that saves steel by bolting modules close to the slab costs you output through every Vidarbha April and May for twenty-five years. Get the mounting height in writing.
Why there is no rupee saving in that table
There is no rupee saving in that table, deliberately. What you save depends on the slab rate you personally pay, and MSEDCL residential slabs step up sharply with consumption. A Nagpur household burning 900 units through May saves far more per unit than a 200-unit one in December. Bring your last bill to the free survey and we work your exact figure out in front of you. How the subsidy works
Five steps, and we run four of them.
PM Surya Ghar is a central scheme, so the amount in Nagpur is the amount in Nashik, Kochi or Kanpur. Anyone advertising a larger "Nagpur subsidy" is describing something that does not exist. What changes city to city is who processes your file, and here that is MSEDCL.
1
Register on the National Portal
You register at pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your MSEDCL consumer number, mobile, Aadhaar and address. We sit with you for it. A consumer number that does not match Mahavitaran's records is the commonest reason a file stalls before it starts.
2
Apply for feasibility, then pick your vendor
MSEDCL checks your application against your sanctioned load and the distribution transformer serving your street. You then choose an empanelled vendor. Heaven Green Energy is empanelled, so we map straight onto your application without a detour.
3
Install only after approval
Installing before feasibility clears puts the whole subsidy at risk, and no vendor can repair that afterwards. Once approved we supply Adani modules with traceable serial numbers, and hand you a Bill of Materials and the warranty schedule on commissioning day.
4
Inspection and net meter
MSEDCL inspects the installation, fits the bidirectional meter and issues the commissioning certificate on the portal. Our engineer attends the inspection, so queries get answered on the roof rather than over three weeks of email.
5
Claim and credit
We file the claim the moment the commissioning certificate issues, using the bank details you entered on the portal. Government credits the money directly to your account. It never touches us, so treat any Nagpur vendor offering to collect it for you as a warning.
If you are a business, this section does not apply
PM Surya Ghar covers residential consumers only. A Nagpur shop, clinic, warehouse or MIDC unit cannot claim it. Businesses claim accelerated depreciation on the asset instead, which for a taxpaying entity frequently returns more than the residential subsidy ever would.
MSEDCL (Mahavitaran)
Net metering: who you actually file with.
Net metering is where rival Nagpur pages go wrong, and naming the wrong licensee costs you every export credit you were counting on.
Nagpur is supplied by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), which trades as Mahavitaran. Your rooftop application, your feasibility approval and your net meter all run through MSEDCL's Nagpur Zone offices. This is worth stating plainly because Nagpur used to be different. From 2011 a private distribution franchisee, SNDL, ran the Civil Lines, Mahal and Gandhibagh divisions under an agreement with MSEDCL. That arrangement ended. MSEDCL took the system back in September 2019 and has supplied the city directly ever since. If a vendor or an old blog still tells you to file with a franchisee, the information is at least six years stale.
Mumbai, by contrast, genuinely does have its own licensees: Adani Electricity Mumbai, Tata Power and BEST. A page that points a Nagpur consumer at an Adani or Tata Power rooftop portal has sent you to a utility with no licence here.
Commercial terms come from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), not from the discom and not from us. Under MERC's grid-interactive rooftop regulations your system is capped at your sanctioned load in kW or contract demand in kVA. It must also fit within the local distribution transformer's spare capacity. Every consumer category may apply. Exported units are credited against consumption on the same connection, and consumers carrying arrears are not eligible until the dues clear.
1
Application
Consumer details, sanctioned load, system rating, the single-line diagram and equipment datasheets go to MSEDCL through the Mahavitaran rooftop portal, under your own consumer number.
Filed by us
2
Technical feasibility
Mahavitaran tests whether your sanctioned load and your street transformer carry the proposed capacity. Oversized systems fail here, which is why we size against sanctioned load on visit one.
MSEDCL
3
Installation and inspection
We install to the approved drawing. MSEDCL then inspects earthing, protection, isolation and metering compliance before anything is energised, with our engineer present on site.
Us, then MSEDCL
4
Bidirectional meter
Your meter is swapped for a bidirectional net meter and the commissioning certificate issues. Export credits start from that date, not from the day the modules went up.
MSEDCL
Not a home?
Solar for Nagpur's businesses.
Running a MIDC shed, a warehouse or a clinic rather than a home? The economics differ, and this page is written for homeowners.
No PM Surya Ghar subsidy reaches units in Butibori MIDC, the Hingna industrial estate, MIHAN and its SEZ or Kalmeshwar. The same applies to the warehousing belt along the Wardha Road and Outer Ring Road corridors. They claim accelerated depreciation on the asset instead, which for a taxpaying business usually beats the residential route. They can also skip the capital outlay entirely through OPEX or RESCO models.
We deliver turnkey commercial and industrial EPC across the Nagpur belt, with structural design to wind-load standards, MSEDCL registration, HT metering coordination and long-term O&M. Engineering and casting sheds around Hingna and Butibori usually have the clear roof span for 100 kW upwards. Cold stores and orange and agro-processing units carry a daytime load profile that matches solar output almost hour for hour. That is the single best reason to put an array over them.
We have built solar since 2017 and delivered more than 10,000 installations across India, from single terraces to industrial plants running into hundreds of kilowatts.

Where we are based
Heaven Green Energy is headquartered at Mota Varachha, Surat. We serve Nagpur and the wider Vidarbha region through our channel partner network and field engineering team, who run the surveys, supervise installation and handle MSEDCL coordination on the ground. There is no Heaven Green branch office in Nagpur, and we say that before you sign rather than after.

What Nagpur weather does to a solar system
Nagpur is one of the hottest cities in India and one of the sunniest, and those two facts pull in opposite directions on a rooftop. Three local conditions change the engineering here, and a vendor who ignores them quotes you less and delivers less.
Extreme summer heat and module derating
May routinely pushes past 45°C in Nagpur, and the city has recorded 47.9°C. Module output falls as cell temperature rises, typically by around 0.3 to 0.4% for every degree above the rating condition, so a Vidarbha April costs real units. The fix is airflow: genuine clearance under the modules, open rail ends and an inverter mounted in shade, never on a west wall.
A heavy four-month monsoon
Nagpur takes roughly 1,200 mm of rain between June and September, with July the wettest month by a distance and single-day totals that can run into the hundreds of millimetres. That is water ingress, not merely low light. Junction boxes, DC cable glands and conduit entries decide whether an array survives ten monsoons. Insist on properly rated enclosures and downward-facing glands.
Dry-season dust on an eight-month dry run
From mid-October to early June Nagpur barely rains, and road dust, coal handling in the wider region and construction along the Outer Ring Road settle on glass continuously. Soiling is the most underrated cause of weak output because it is invisible from the ground. Nagpur roofs want cleaning every two to three weeks through that window. Our AMC covers it.

Before you sign
Six things to check on any Nagpur quote.
Including ours. Take this list to every vendor you speak to.
Confirm the vendor names MSEDCL. Nagpur's SNDL franchise ended in 2019 and the city is supplied directly by Mahavitaran, so a quote referring to a franchisee is working from stale information.
Check the vendor is not pointing you at Adani Electricity, Tata Power or BEST. Those three are Mumbai licensees with no licence in Nagpur, and following them wastes weeks on the wrong portal.
Get a written Bill of Materials naming module make and wattage, inverter make and model, structure specification, cable gauge and protection devices. A quote without one is a number, not an offer.
Ask for the mounting clearance in writing. Nagpur summers run past 45°C, and a flush-mounted array loses output every year it stands there. Airflow under the modules is a specification, not an upgrade.
Check the proposed capacity fits your sanctioned load. MERC caps the system at sanctioned load, so an oversized quote fails feasibility. Raising sanctioned load is a separate MSEDCL application with its own timeline.
Never pay a vendor to collect your subsidy. Government credits it straight to your bank account once MSEDCL issues the commissioning certificate, so a vendor who wants it routed through them should be walked away from.
Questions
Solar in Nagpur: every question answered.
17 questions Nagpur buyers actually search for, including the ones
competing pages leave out. Grouped so you can skip to what you need.
Cost & subsidy
What is the price of a 3 kW solar system in Nagpur?
About ₹1.85 lakh to ₹2.32 lakh installed, before subsidy. After the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy you pay roughly ₹1.07 lakh to ₹1.54 lakh. The range reflects module tier, inverter brand and structure quality, not negotiating margin. Ask for the split between modules, inverter and balance of system.
How much solar subsidy will I get in Nagpur?
Up to ₹78,000. The scheme pays ₹30,000 per kW for the first two kW and ₹18,000 for the third, then nothing above 3 kW. It is central, so Nagpur gets exactly what every other Indian city gets. Payment reaches your bank after MSEDCL issues the commissioning certificate.
Is solar cheaper in Nagpur than in Mumbai or Pune?
Usually a little cheaper than metro Pune or Mumbai. Metro projects carry crane access, high-rise handling and housing society compliance costs that a Nagpur plot or bungalow does not. The gap is a few percent of system cost rather than a different order of price.
Can I get solar in Nagpur with no money down?
Often yes. Residential systems can run on EMI through a finance partner. Commercial rooftops can go the OPEX or RESCO route, where a developer owns the asset and you buy the units. Both shift the capital cost off you, and both change the payback maths, so ask for it in writing.
Net metering & DISCOM
Which electricity company handles solar net metering in Nagpur?
MSEDCL, trading as Mahavitaran. It is the distribution licensee for Nagpur and handles the rooftop application, technical feasibility, inspection and the bidirectional meter. Apply through the Mahavitaran rooftop portal against your consumer number. Adani Electricity, Tata Power and BEST are Mumbai licensees and do not serve Nagpur.
Does SNDL still supply electricity in Nagpur?
No. SNDL ran the Civil Lines, Mahal and Gandhibagh divisions as a distribution franchisee from 2011, and that arrangement ended when MSEDCL took the network back in September 2019. Mahavitaran supplies the whole city directly today. Any page telling you to file with a franchisee is out of date.
How long does MSEDCL net metering take in Nagpur?
Expect a few weeks from application to meter in a straightforward case, but the timeline belongs to MSEDCL, not to us. Feasibility, inspection scheduling and meter availability all sit at their end. Anyone promising you a fixed date for a discom step is promising something they do not control.
What size system will MSEDCL approve for my connection?
Up to your sanctioned load in kW, or contract demand in kVA, under the MERC rooftop framework, and within the spare capacity of the distribution transformer feeding your street. That is why we read your sanctioned load at the survey. Raising it is a separate MSEDCL application.
Sizing & performance
How many units will a 5 kW system generate in Nagpur?
Roughly 600 to 675 units a month on a shadow-free roof, working from 4 to 4.5 units per kW per day as an annual average. Summer months run above that figure and July and August below it, because Nagpur's monsoon is heavy. Judge a system on the year, not on one month.
How much roof do I need for solar in Nagpur?
About 300 sq ft of shadow-free area for 3 kW and about 500 sq ft for 5 kW. Shadow-free is the operative word: water tanks, staircase rooms, parapets and a neighbour's rising wall all take usable area away. The survey measures what you actually have, not the plot size.
Does Nagpur's extreme summer heat reduce solar output?
Yes, and it is a real effect. Module output drops as cell temperature climbs, so peak May afternoons here produce less per kW than a cooler April morning at the same irradiance. Good mounting clearance and airflow under the array recover much of it. Flush-mounted arrays do not.
What happens to my solar system during the Nagpur monsoon?
It keeps running, at lower output. Cloud cover through July and August cuts generation, and net metering is what carries you: credits banked in the dry months offset monsoon consumption. Rain also washes the glass, which is why soiling matters far more from November to May here.
Installation & service
How long does installation take in Nagpur?
Two to four working days on a typical residential terrace once approvals are in hand, covering structure, module mounting, DC wiring, earthing and inverter commissioning. The longer part of the calendar is applications and MSEDCL feasibility, not the physical work on your roof.
Who cleans and maintains the panels?
You can clean them yourself with water and a soft brush, or take our AMC. In Nagpur we recommend cleaning every two to three weeks through the long dry season, because dust builds steadily and the loss is invisible from ground level. Monitoring flags a drop before you notice it.
What warranties come with the system?
Adani modules carry the manufacturer's product and performance warranties registered in your name, and the inverter carries its own. You receive the Bill of Materials and the warranty schedule at commissioning, with serial numbers. Keep that file: it is what a claim runs on in year twelve.
About Heaven Green
Does Heaven Green Energy have an office in Nagpur?
No. Our only office is at Mota Varachha, Surat. We serve Nagpur through our channel partner network and field engineering team, who run surveys, supervise installation and handle MSEDCL coordination locally. We state that upfront rather than implying a branch that does not exist.
Why should I use a Surat company for a Nagpur rooftop?
Because the parts that go wrong are supply chain, engineering and paperwork, not proximity. We have built since 2017 and delivered more than 10,000 installations. We distribute Adani modules directly and manufacture our own Qbits inverters, so warranty and service run through one party.
