Akola is supplied by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), which trades as Mahavitaran. Your rooftop application, your feasibility approval and your bidirectional meter all run through the local Akola circle and divisional offices of MSEDCL. There is no separate Vidarbha utility and no private distribution franchisee operating in Akola, which is worth saying plainly because franchisee arrangements have existed elsewhere in Maharashtra and old blog posts still confuse people. MSEDCL is a state-owned company formed in 2005 when the old Maharashtra State Electricity Board was unbundled, and it supplies almost the entire state.
Maharashtra does contain genuine exceptions, but all of them sit in Mumbai: Adani Electricity Mumbai, Tata Power and BEST hold distribution licences there. A page that points an Akola consumer at an Adani or Tata Power rooftop portal has sent you to a company with no licence in this district. It is a small error that wastes weeks.
The commercial terms come from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), not from the discom and not from us. Under MERC's grid-interactive rooftop framework your system is capped at your sanctioned load in kW, or contract demand in kVA, and it has to fit the spare capacity on your distribution transformer. Every consumer category may apply, residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural alike. Exported units are credited against consumption on the same connection, and consumers carrying arrears are not eligible until those dues clear.
