Kolhapur is supplied by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), trading as Mahavitaran, which runs a Kolhapur zonal office covering the city and the surrounding talukas. MSEDCL serves almost the whole state. The exceptions sit in Mumbai, where BEST, Tata Power and Adani Electricity hold the licences, plus a handful of franchise arrangements elsewhere. Pages that describe Kolhapur under a Mumbai licensee, or link an Adani Electricity portal, are pointing you at a utility that cannot process your file.
The commercial terms are not set by the discom and not by us. They come from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). Under the MERC framework your rooftop system is capped at your sanctioned load, every consumer category may apply, and surplus units you export are credited against units you draw. That matters in Kolhapur because the credits you bank from January to May are what carry you through a wet July.
One practical consequence: your sanctioned load, not your roof area and not your ambition, is the ceiling. Plenty of Kolhapur bungalows have terrace space for 10 kW and a sanctioned load that permits half of it. Raising the load is a separate MSEDCL application with its own timeline, so we read the load off your bill on day one rather than discovering it at feasibility stage.
