Solapur is supplied by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the utility everyone here calls Mahavitaran. It is the state distribution licensee and runs Solapur through its Pune regional structure. It is not Adani Electricity, Tata Power or BEST, who between them supply Mumbai, and it is not Torrent Power, which holds the Bhiwandi franchise. Pages that lump all of Maharashtra under one Mumbai licensee, or link a franchisee portal, send you to a utility that has no record of your connection.
The commercial terms are not set by the discom and not by us. They come from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). Under the MERC framework your rooftop system is capped at your sanctioned load, and every consumer category may apply. Units you export earn credit against units you import within the billing cycle.
Two practical consequences follow. First, if your sanctioned load is 3 kW you cannot sanction a 6 kW array without applying to raise the load, and that application is part of our job. Second, oversizing to chase export income does not work the way sales pitches suggest, because credits net against consumption rather than paying out like a generation tariff.
Section offices matter too. Solapur city is split across several MSEDCL sections, and an application filed at the wrong one drifts for weeks before anyone tells you. We file against the section that actually holds your consumer number, which is why we ask for the bill rather than only the address.
