The short answer

Rooftop solar in Pune costs roughly ₹66,000 to ₹83,000 per kW before subsidy. A 3 kW system runs about ₹2.00 lakh to ₹2.50 lakh, falling to ₹1.22 lakh to ₹1.72 lakh after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy. Each kW yields 4 to 4.5 units daily here. MSEDCL, trading as Mahavitaran, handles Pune net metering. Payback lands between three and a half and five years.

Price, size and savings

Find your bill. Read across.

Most Pune solar pages quote a national average or hide the number behind a callback form. This table answers the whole question in one place. Find your monthly bill in the left column, then read across for the system size and the monthly units it produces. The next columns show the shadow-free roof it needs and what it costs after subsidy.

Indicative Pune market ranges, 2026

Indicative Pune market ranges for 2026, covering Tier-1 modules, a branded inverter, galvanised structure, protection and installation. These are not a Heaven Green quotation. Subsidy amounts are the central PM Surya Ghar figures published on pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Generation assumes a shadow-free, roughly south-facing roof.

The 3 kW cliff decides your economics. Nothing is paid above 3 kW, so the subsidy covers 31 to 39% of a 3 kW system but only 11 to 14% of a 10 kW one. If your bill sits on the border between 3 kW and 5 kW, the smaller system returns more rupees per rupee spent. Size against the units on your MSEDCL bill, not the amount, because units are what an array cancels.

A cheap Pune quote is cheap in the steel, not the glass. Galvanising thickness, cable gauge, earthing and surge protection separate the bottom of each band from the top. Ask for a written Bill of Materials listing make, model and quantity for every item. Without one you are comparing two numbers, not two systems.

Pune-specific warning: check who owns your roof. In an apartment building the terrace is usually society property, not yours, and a vendor who installs on it without a society resolution has handed you a dispute. Get the resolution first, in writing, before any advance changes hands.

Why there is no rupee saving in that table

There is no rupee saving in that table on purpose. What you save depends on the slab rate you personally pay, and MSEDCL residential slabs step up sharply as consumption rises. A 900-unit household therefore saves far more per unit than a 200-unit one. Bring your last bill to the free survey and we will work your exact figure out in front of you. Prefer to work it out yourself first? Put your bill into our solar savings calculator. No phone number required.

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

₹78,000

Maximum central subsidy for a residential rooftop system.

  • ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW
  • ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW
  • Nothing paid above 3 kW
  • Credited directly to your bank account
  • We file the entire claim for you
How the subsidy works

Five steps, and we run four of them.

PM Surya Ghar is a central scheme, so the amount is identical in Pune, Nagpur and Chennai. Anyone advertising a bigger "Pune subsidy" is describing something that does not exist. What changes by city is who processes your file, and in Pune that is MSEDCL.

1

Register on the National Portal

You register at pmsuryaghar.gov.in using your MSEDCL consumer number, mobile, Aadhaar and address. We sit with you for this. A consumer number that does not match Mahavitaran's records is the commonest reason an application stalls before it starts.

2

Apply for feasibility, then pick your vendor

MSEDCL checks the application against your sanctioned load and the distribution transformer serving your street. You then choose an empanelled vendor. Heaven Green Energy is empanelled, so we map straight to your application.

3

Install only after approval

Installing before feasibility clears puts your entire subsidy at risk, and no vendor can undo that afterwards. Once approved, we supply Adani modules with traceable serial numbers and hand you a Bill of Materials and the warranty schedule on commissioning day.

4

Inspection and net meter

MSEDCL inspects the installation, fits the bidirectional meter and issues the commissioning certificate on the portal. Our engineer attends the inspection so queries get answered on the spot instead of by email.

5

Claim and credit

We file the claim as soon as the commissioning certificate issues, with your bank details taken from the portal. Government credits the subsidy directly to your account. It never passes through us, so treat any Pune vendor offering to collect it on your behalf as a warning sign.

If you are a business, this section does not apply

PM Surya Ghar covers residential consumers only. A Pune shop, clinic, factory or IT office cannot claim it. Businesses claim accelerated depreciation on the asset instead, which for a taxpaying entity often returns more than the residential subsidy would have paid.

MSEDCL (Mahavitaran)

Net metering: who you actually file with.

Net metering is where rival Pune pages go wrong, and naming the wrong licensee costs you every export credit you were counting on.

Pune is supplied by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), which trades as Mahavitaran. MSEDCL distributes power to the whole of Maharashtra except parts of Mumbai, and Pune Zone is one of its sixteen zonal offices. This matters because Mumbai has three separate licensees of its own: Adani Electricity Mumbai, Tata Power and BEST. A page that tells you to apply through an Adani or Tata Power portal has pointed a Pune consumer at a utility that does not serve the city.

Commercial terms come from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), not from the discom and not from us. The MERC Grid Interactive Rooftop Renewable Energy Generating Systems Regulations, 2019 cap your system at your sanctioned load in kW or contract demand in kVA. It must also sit within 70% of the distribution transformer capacity. Every consumer category may apply, and the definition of an eligible consumer expressly includes a connection serving a common load such as a housing society.

Consumers carrying arrears with MSEDCL are not eligible until the dues clear. Exported units are credited against your consumption on the same connection. A 2024 MERC amendment lets a society nominate one existing connection as the net-metering connection and adjust surplus against other participating consumers in pre-specified ratios.

1

Application

Consumer details, sanctioned load, system rating, the single-line diagram and equipment datasheets go to MSEDCL through the Mahavitaran rooftop portal, under your consumer number.

Filed by us
2

Technical feasibility

Mahavitaran tests whether your sanctioned load and the local distribution transformer carry the proposed capacity. Oversized systems fail here, which is exactly why we size against sanctioned load on the first visit rather than the last.

MSEDCL
3

Installation and inspection

We install to the approved drawing. MSEDCL then inspects earthing, protection, isolation and metering compliance before anything is energised, and our engineer attends so queries are settled on site.

Us, then MSEDCL
4

Bidirectional meter

Your existing meter is replaced with a bidirectional net meter and the commissioning certificate issues. Export credits begin from that date, not from the day the panels went up.

Not a home?

Solar for Pune's businesses.

Running an IT floor, a workshop or a clinic rather than a home? The economics differ, and this page is written for homeowners.

Businesses in Hinjawadi's Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, the Hadapsar and Magarpatta corridor, Kharadi's IT campuses, Ranjangaon, Chakan and Talegaon get no PM Surya Ghar subsidy. They claim accelerated depreciation on the asset instead, which for a taxpaying business often beats the residential route, and they can avoid capital outlay altogether through OPEX or RESCO models.

We deliver turnkey commercial and industrial EPC across the Pune belt, with structural design to wind-load standards, MSEDCL registration, HT metering coordination and long-term O&M. Auto-ancillary sheds around Chakan and Ranjangaon usually have the roof span for 100 kW upwards. IT buildings in Kharadi and Hinjawadi are constrained by terrace plant rooms instead, so a shadow survey does more work there than a spreadsheet. Housing societies sit between the two: the common meter usually carries a modest sanctioned load, and raising it is often the first step before any capacity is worth discussing.

Why us

Why Pune customers choose Heaven Green Energy

We have built solar since 2017 and delivered more than 10,000 installations across India, from single terraces to industrial plants in the hundreds of kilowatts.

Authorised Adani Solar distributorGenuine Adani modules, traceable serial numbers and the full manufacturer warranty, registered in your name. No grey-market stock, and no fly-by-night brand that has disappeared by year eight when a performance claim finally matters.
We build our own invertersQbits is our in-house inverter brand. Service on the component most likely to need it in fifteen years runs through us directly. It does not go through an importer's ticket queue and a spare part that has to clear customs.
The paperwork is our jobPortal registration, vendor mapping, MSEDCL feasibility, the net-metering file, inspection attendance and the subsidy claim all sit with our team. Your job is to sign documents, attend the survey and keep your bills handy.
We handle society approvalsCommon-meter and shared-terrace projects need a society resolution, a sanctioned-load check and agreed adjustment ratios between flats. We prepare that paperwork with your managing committee before anyone puts a price on the roof.

Where we are based

Heaven Green Energy is headquartered at Mota Varachha, Surat. We serve Pune and the wider Western Maharashtra region through our channel partner network and field engineering team. They run the surveys, supervise installation and handle MSEDCL coordination on the ground. There is no Heaven Green branch office in Pune, and we say that before you sign rather than after.

How we work

From first call to a spinning net meter.

Four steps to a spinning net meter, including the parts that belong to MSEDCL rather than to us.

01

Free site survey

We measure shadow-free area, check the slab and parapet condition, and read your sanctioned load and twelve months of MSEDCL consumption. We also log shading from water tanks, lift rooms and neighbouring towers through the day.

Day 1–2
02

Written proposal

System size, module layout, a Bill of Materials with makes and models, generation modelled at Pune irradiance, your subsidy and your payback. No obligation, nothing to pay, and the document is yours to compare against any rival quote.

Day 3–5
03

Applications and installation

We file with the national portal and with MSEDCL, then install once technical feasibility clears. A typical Pune residential terrace takes two to four working days, including structure, DC wiring, earthing and inverter commissioning.

Day 5–15
04

Inspection, meter, subsidy

MSEDCL inspects the installation, replaces your meter with a bidirectional one and issues the commissioning certificate. We then file your subsidy claim and government pays it straight into your bank account.

What Pune weather does to a solar system

Pune sits in the rain shadow of the Western Ghats at roughly 560 metres, which gives it a heavy but compressed monsoon and a long, dusty dry season. Three local conditions change the engineering, and a vendor who ignores them quotes you less and delivers less.

A four-month monsoon you must design around

Around four fifths of Pune's rain falls between June and September, with July the wettest month by a wide margin. That means water ingress, not just low light. Junction boxes, DC cable glands and conduit entries decide whether an array survives ten monsoons. Insist on properly rated enclosures, downward-facing glands and cable routing that never traps standing water on the terrace.

April heat and module derating

April is Pune's hottest month, with highs in the high thirties and occasional days past 40°C. Module output falls as cell temperature climbs, and the fix is airflow. A structure bolted flush to the terrace to save steel costs you generation every summer for twenty-five years. Real clearance under the modules lets heat escape and keeps the terrace below usable.

Dry-season dust and construction soiling

From January to May Pune is dry, and construction along Baner, Kharadi, Wagholi and the Ring Road corridor puts fine cement dust into the air. Soiling is the most underrated cause of weak output because it is invisible from ground level. Pune roofs want cleaning every two to three weeks through that window. Our AMC covers it.

Questions

Solar in Pune: every question answered.

17 questions Pune buyers actually search for, including the ones competing pages leave out. Grouped so you can skip to what you need.

Cost & subsidy

What is the price of a 3 kW solar system in Pune?
About ₹2.00 lakh to ₹2.50 lakh installed, before subsidy. After the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy you pay roughly ₹1.22 lakh to ₹1.72 lakh. The range reflects module tier, inverter brand and structure quality, not a negotiating margin. Ask for the split between modules, inverter and balance of system before comparing quotes.
How much subsidy will I get in Pune?
Up to ₹78,000. The scheme pays ₹30,000 per kW for the first two kW and ₹18,000 for the third, then nothing above 3 kW. It is a central scheme, so Pune gets exactly what every other Indian city gets. Payment reaches your bank account after MSEDCL issues the commissioning certificate.
Is solar in Pune costlier than in smaller Maharashtra towns?
Slightly, yes. Metro Pune projects carry access, crane and society compliance costs that a standalone house in a district town does not. The gap is usually a few percent of system cost, not a different order of price. Access, crane hire and society compliance are the usual reasons for the difference.
Can a Pune housing society claim the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
A society can claim central assistance for common-area load under the scheme's group housing provision, separate from the individual residential cap. Individual flat owners with their own MSEDCL meter claim the standard slabs on their own connection. Either route needs the society resolution and a sanctioned-load check first.

Net metering & DISCOM

Which electricity company handles solar net metering in Pune?
MSEDCL, which trades as Mahavitaran, is Pune's distribution licensee. Applications go through the Mahavitaran rooftop portal. Adani Electricity, Tata Power and BEST are Mumbai licensees and have no role in a Pune connection. Check any page that tells you otherwise before you trust its prices.
How big a system can MSEDCL approve for my house?
Up to your sanctioned load in kW, under the MERC Grid Interactive Rooftop Regulations 2019. The system must also sit within 70% of your distribution transformer's capacity. If you want more, apply to raise your sanctioned load first. We check both on the survey visit, before a proposal is written.
Can my society put solar on the common meter?
Yes. MERC's definition of an eligible consumer expressly covers a connection serving a common load such as a housing society. A 2024 amendment also lets a society nominate one existing connection and adjust surplus against other participating consumers in agreed ratios. Your committee needs to agree those ratios in writing before the file goes in.
What happens to units I export to MSEDCL?
Exported units are credited against your consumption on the billing cycle and net out on your MSEDCL bill. Credits start from the date the bidirectional meter is fitted and the commissioning certificate issues, not from the day panels go up. Arrears on the connection will block the application until they are cleared.

Sizing & performance

How many units will a solar system generate in Pune?
Between 4 and 4.5 units per kW per day as an annual average, on a shadow-free roof with roughly south-facing modules. Pune sees about 5.5 peak sun hours. A 5 kW system therefore produces roughly 600 to 675 units a month. Output runs above that between October and March and below it in the monsoon.
How much roof do I need in Pune?
About 200 sq ft for 2 kW, 300 sq ft for 3 kW and 500 sq ft for 5 kW, all of it shadow-free. Lift rooms, water tanks and adjoining towers shrink usable area quickly in Pune's high-rise pockets, so a survey beats an estimate. We photograph and measure the usable area rather than working off a plan drawing.
Does the Pune monsoon stop generation for four months?
No, it reduces it. Output falls on heavy overcast days between June and September and recovers strongly from October. Annual generation figures already average the monsoon in, so a system sized on yearly units does not need oversizing for the rains. Battery backup is a separate decision, driven by outages rather than by rainfall.
Should I size against my bill amount or my units?
Units. A system cancels kilowatt-hours, and MSEDCL slab rates mean the rupee amount moves faster than consumption does. Take the twelve-month unit total off your bills and size against that. Bring the bills to the survey. Monsoon months will pull the twelve-month average down, which is why twelve months matters.

Installation & service

How long does a Pune solar installation take end to end?
Usually four to eight weeks. Survey and proposal take under a week, portal and MSEDCL feasibility set the middle stretch, and the physical install on a residential terrace takes two to four days. MSEDCL inspection and meter fitting close it out. Society approvals can add a week or two at the front of that timeline.
How often should Pune panels be cleaned?
Every two to three weeks from January to May, when dry-season dust and construction soiling build up fastest, and monthly through the rest of the year. The monsoon washes some of it off but leaves streaking on low-tilt arrays. Our AMC covers scheduled cleaning. Never clean a hot array at midday; early morning is safer for the glass and for you.
Do I need permission from my housing society?
Yes, if the terrace is society property, which it usually is in Pune apartment buildings. You need a written resolution covering terrace use, cable routing and roof access. We prepare that documentation with your committee before quoting. Cable routing through common areas is the clause societies argue about most.

About Heaven Green

Does Heaven Green Energy have an office in Pune?
No. Our single office is at Mota Varachha, Surat. Pune is served through our channel partner network and field engineering team, who run surveys, supervise installation and handle MSEDCL coordination. We state that up front rather than implying a local branch. Surveys, supervision and MSEDCL coordination in Pune are all handled by that team.
What equipment does Heaven Green install?
Adani Solar modules, as an authorised distributor, with traceable serial numbers and full manufacturer warranty. Inverters are Qbits, our in-house brand, so service on the component most likely to need it stays with us instead of an importer. Both carry the manufacturer warranty documentation handed over on commissioning day.
