Spain has one layer that most European markets do not, and ignoring it is the single most expensive planning error a growing instalador makes.
Design and simulation is array layout, shading, string sizing, temperature derating and the hourly yield model. Legalisation document management is the file that travels to the Comunidad Autonoma and the distribuidora: memoria tecnica de diseno or proyecto, certificado de instalacion electrica, declaracion responsable, CAU assignment and the acceptance correspondence. Monitoring is the twenty-year production record. Autoconsumo colectivo administration is the ongoing job of maintaining reparto coefficients, settling generation across participants and processing joiners and leavers. Facturacion and CRM is quotes, invoices, IVA and the Verifactu record-keeping obligation. Field operations is scheduling, work orders, service visits and the O&M contracts that a large installed base now generates.
The interesting thing about that list is that only the first layer is what people mean when they say solar software, and only the first layer is what most comparison pages rank. Honest limitations. Hardware locked. A six-year-old installer with Huawei, SolarEdge, Fronius and Growatt across the fleet ends up with four portals, four alert formats and no single view. No design, no proposals, no work orders, no invoicing. 3. CYPE
What it does best. Spanish technical documentation, which is a different job from design. CYPE, from Alicante, is the tool that Spanish ingenierias and technical offices already own, and CYPELEC REBT produces the low-voltage electrical calculations and the documentation set that a Comunidad Autonoma reviewer recognises without argument. Paired with Arquimedes for measurements and budgets, it turns an installation into a document package that fits Spanish professional practice rather than a rendering.
Real pricing. CYPE sells on an annual subscription that renews automatically each year unless cancelled 30 days before expiry. CYPE publishes CYPE one at €64 per user per month on GO, €89 on PRO and €125 on MAX, all paid annually. CYPELEC PV Systems and CYPE PV Systems are bundled into the PRO and MAX tiers rather than sold at a published standalone price; the per-product price list on the CYPE shop is password protected, so treat any standalone module figure as unverified.
Who it suits. Ingenierias, technical offices and any installer whose projects need a signed proyecto rather than a memoria tecnica.
Honest limitations. It is not a solar platform. No satellite roof capture, no 8,760-hour PV yield engine of the class PVsyst or SurgePV provide, no customer-facing presupuesto worth sending, no CRM, no monitoring and no colectivo settlement. The interface is dense and the learning curve is real. Module-based pricing makes the true annual cost genuinely hard to compare until you have a quote in hand.
4. Bamboo Energy
What it does best. The layer nobody else touches. Bamboo Energy, out of Barcelona, sits in the small category of Spanish platforms built for managing energy communities and flexible demand rather than designing arrays: participant registers, coefficient management, energy allocation from measured curves and the settlement outputs that let someone bill a colectivo month after month. When your colectivo has nineteen participants and two of them changed in March, this is the category of product that keeps the arithmetic defensible.
Real pricing. Quoted per community and commonly per participant, frequently landing in the range of €1 to €3 per participant per month with a platform fee on top. Expect €1,500 to €6,000 a year for a portfolio of a few communities.
Who it suits. Instaladores who have moved from selling colectivos to operating them, plus gestoras energeticas and comunidades energeticas that need the monthly settlement to survive scrutiny.
Honest limitations. No design, no simulation, no proposals. It presumes the community already exists, so it does nothing for the sales cycle that creates one. Pricing is opaque until you talk to them. For a firm running a single small colectivo, a carefully built spreadsheet plus Datadis curves is genuinely cheaper, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
5. PVsyst
What it does best. Bankability. When a Spanish bank, an insurer or a technical advisor wants an independent view on a 30 MW plant in Extremadura, the PVsyst loss diagram is the document named in the term sheet. 6. SolarEdge Monitoring
What it does best. Module-level visibility on shaded Spanish roofs, which are common in dense urban housing and old town centres. Per-optimiser production data means a failing module is identified as a module rather than as a vaguely underperforming string, and mySolarEdge gives the homeowner enough visibility to stop calling you every cloudy week.
Real pricing. Included with the hardware, with no recurring monitoring fee for standard use.
Who it suits. Residential installers standardised on SolarEdge, particularly anyone whose typical roof has chimneys, neighbouring buildings or a tiled hip that makes strings awkward.
Honest limitations. Same hardware lock as Huawei. No design, no proposals, no dispatch, no invoicing. Portfolio-level reporting for commercial O&M contracts is adequate rather than strong, and if half your fleet is another brand it solves half your problem.
7. Holded
What it does best. The Spanish commercial spine, including the part that is now a legal obligation. Holded is a Spanish cloud business platform with quoting, invoicing, IVA handling, expenses, banking and a light CRM, and it has moved with the Verifactu invoicing requirements rather than treating them as a foreign edge case. For an instalador whose facturas currently come out of a spreadsheet template, this is the layer where compliance risk actually sits.
Real pricing. Roughly €15 to €50 per user per month by tier, so about €1,000 to €3,000 a year for five users.
Who it suits. Installers past roughly five employees whose quoting, invoicing and bookkeeping have drifted into three different places.
Honest limitations. It knows nothing about solar. No kWp, no string sizing, no excedentes, no yield. The quote it produces is a line-item document, not a designed system, so the engineered number still lives in your design tool and the two can drift. 8. STEL Order
What it does best. Field operations for Spanish trades. Work orders, technician scheduling, mobile app signature capture on site, parts and stock against the job, and the maintenance contract structure that an O&M business needs once it is servicing several hundred systems. Spain’s installed base is now old enough that service revenue is a real business line rather than a nuisance, and this is the layer that makes it profitable.
Real pricing. Roughly €25 to €45 per user per month, so about €1,500 to €2,700 a year for five users.
Who it suits. Installers running two or more crews, and anyone whose O&M contracts have outgrown a shared calendar.
Honest limitations. It knows nothing about photovoltaics. No design, no string data, no monitoring integration, so an alarm in FusionSolar does not become a work order without a manual step. Commissioning records are generic attachments rather than structured PV data, which means you build the checklists yourself.
9. dmELECT
What it does best. The other Spanish technical documentation incumbent, and often the cheaper one. dmELECT’s electrical calculation and documentation modules produce REBT-compliant low-voltage calculations, schematics and the memoria set for a Spanish legalisation file, with a workflow that Spanish technical staff learned at school. For a small ingenieria that needs the paperwork right and does not need CYPE’s full building suite, it is a rational purchase.
Real pricing. Not publicly listed. dmELECT states in its own FAQ that the licence is perpetual and that updates and support come from an optional maintenance contract at €160 plus IVA a year on a two-year commitment, but it publishes no purchase price for the modules on its own site. Any per-module figure you see quoted comes from colegio de ingenieros group offers, not from dmELECT.
Who it suits. Small ingenierias and instaladores producing their own memorias tecnicas and certificados rather than outsourcing them.
Honest limitations. Windows desktop, limited collaboration, no cloud project sharing, no satellite roof capture, no PV yield engine, no CRM, no monitoring. The interface shows its age. Like CYPE, it is a documentation tool that sits beside a design tool rather than replacing one.
10. Datadis
What it does best. Being the free, official source of the one dataset every Spanish self-consumption calculation depends on. Datadis is the distributor-run platform that gives access to hourly consumption curves for a supply point with the consumer’s authorisation, which is the difference between sizing a system from twelve monthly bill totals and sizing it from 8,760 real hours. For a colectivo it is more than useful, it is close to mandatory, because the reparto conversation is impossible without knowing when each participant actually uses power.
Real pricing. Free.
Who it suits. Every Spanish installer, without exception, and especially anyone quoting colectivos or batteries.
Honest limitations. It is a data source, not a platform. No design, no modelling, no proposals, no billing. Consumer authorisation is required for each supply point, the interface is functional at best, and bulk retrieval for a nineteen-participant community is tedious without an integration. Data availability occasionally lags, which is awkward when a customer is waiting on a quote.

Verdict. Buy against the layer that is bleeding hours, not against feature counts. Drawings and presupuestos slow? SurgePV. A lender naming a report? PVsyst. Legalisation files stuck in review? CYPE or dmELECT. A colectivo you now have to settle every month? Bamboo Energy. Facturas held together by a template? Holded, and treat it as a compliance purchase.
Autoconsumo Colectivo Is a Software Category, Not a Feature
This is the part of the Spanish stack that genuinely does not exist in a single-meter market, and it is where firms discover too late that they sold a twenty-year administrative obligation for a one-off installation fee.
A collective self-consumption arrangement under RD 244/2019 puts one generation facility behind one CAU code and divides its output across multiple supply points using reparto coefficients. Those coefficients must sum to one for every hour of the year. They can be fixed or, since the rules were relaxed, dynamic and hourly, which is far better for a mixed building where an office consumes at midday and the flats consume at night. The distribuidora applies the coefficients when it settles each participant’s bill, and any change to the participant list requires a fresh signed agreement and a fresh coefficient submission.
That produces four recurring jobs no design tool performs:
- Coefficient design and revision. Getting the split right at the start using measured hourly curves, then revising it when consumption patterns change, when a participant adds an electric vehicle, or when the building’s use changes.
- Participant churn. People sell flats, businesses close, new neighbours join. Each change means agreement paperwork, a coefficient recalculation that still sums to one, and a submission that the distribuidora accepts.
- Per-participant settlement and communication. Nineteen households each want to know what they saved, and the answer sits between their own bill, the generation record and the coefficient table. Doing this by hand is roughly one working day a month per community.
- Dispute evidence. When one participant believes they are subsidising another, you need the hourly generation, the coefficient history and the allocation record. A spreadsheet that has been edited forty times is not evidence.
⚠️ Watch out
If you sell colectivos without pricing the monthly settlement work into a service contract, you have sold twenty years of unpaid administration. Price it, or hand the job to a gestora.

Legalisation Is Document Management, Not Design
The second uniquely Spanish layer is the file. Getting a system energised in Spain means clearing the distribuidora on one side and the Comunidad Autonoma’s industry department on the other, and the second of those is a document workflow that differs by region.
The bundle typically includes the memoria tecnica de diseno for smaller installations or a signed proyecto above the thresholds, the certificado de instalacion electrica issued by the registered installer, the declaracion responsable or the corresponding regional submission, the CAU assignment, the technical datasheets and conformity declarations, and the correspondence with the distribuidora that eventually produces the connection acceptance. Andalucia, Cataluna, Madrid and Valencia each run their own portals, their own forms and their own review pace, and the CNMC sits over the connection rules that all of them inherit.
There is no Spanish product that automates this end to end, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling a roadmap. What does work is treating it as document management with a per-community checklist inside whatever project tool you already run. Three habits separate firms that get energised in weeks from firms that get energised in months:
- One folder structure per project, applied without exception, with the region’s own checklist pinned at the top so a missing anexo is visible before submission rather than after rejection.
- Named ownership per file. A legalisation file with no owner sits still. In our experience across large project volumes, the single biggest schedule variable in permitting is not the reviewer, it is whether one person is accountable for chasing it.
- Structured commissioning capture in the field tool. String test values, insulation readings, inverter settings and photos held against the asset, so the certificate and the eventual warranty argument both draw on the same record. Monitoring and O&M: Spain’s Largest Under-Bought Layer
Spain has a very large installed base and much of it is now old enough to fail in interesting ways, which turns monitoring from a nice handover gift into a revenue line.
The inverter brand decides most of it. Huawei, SolarEdge, Fronius and Growatt cover a dominant share of Spanish rooftop installs, and every one of them ships a capable portal free with the hardware. For a single-brand residential fleet that is genuinely sufficient and paying for a hardware-agnostic platform would be waste. The problem arrives with history: an installer six years in typically has Growatt on the early price-sensitive jobs, SolarEdge where shading demanded optimisers, Huawei on the volume years and Fronius on the commercial roofs. Four portals, four alert formats, no fleet view, and a service department losing a day a week to logins.
The trigger for buying a hardware-agnostic platform is commercial rather than technical. It is usually one of three things: a performance guarantee you have to prove, an O&M contract you have signed, or a service headcount you can no longer justify. Below that threshold, stay on the free portals and spend the money on field operations instead.
What to insist on for Spanish O&M specifically:
- Heat-aware performance expectations. A plant in Sevilla in August is not underperforming because output dipped at 15:00. Alerting that does not understand temperature derating will send you on truck rolls you did not need.
- String-level comparison, not just zero-output alarms. The difference between catching a failing connector in week two and finding it at the annual visit.
- Soiling awareness. Dust and agricultural dry seasons in the south make cleaning a schedulable, measurable intervention rather than a guess. This annual maintenance checklist is a reasonable starting template to adapt.

Facturacion, IVA and Verifactu
This is the layer where a Spanish installer’s software choice stops being a preference and becomes a legal question, which is why imported solar CRMs struggle here.
Spain’s anti-fraud invoicing framework requires billing systems to produce invoice records that are complete, traceable, unalterable and verifiable, with the Verifactu route sending records to the Agencia Tributaria at the moment of issue. The practical consequence is that your invoicing tool has to be a system the tax authority recognises, not a spreadsheet template or a PDF generator bolted onto a proposal tool. A design platform that produces a beautiful presupuesto is not an invoicing system and should never be treated as one.
📘 Regulation note
Check with your gestor which compliance date applies to your entity type before assuming your current billing tool is acceptable. The obligation lands on companies and on the self-employed on different dates, and vendor readiness varies more than vendor marketing suggests.
Two more Spanish financial specifics shape the stack. IBI and ICIO rebates are municipal, which means the saving in a proposal depends on the ayuntamiento and not on national policy, so any tool with one national incentive field will misstate it. And compensacion simplificada de excedentes can reduce the energy term of a bill to zero but never the fixed access and power terms, which caps how far it pays to oversize a residential array. A financial model that ignores that cap sells systems that never pay back as promised, and the customer discovers it in month three.
The Stack a Spanish Installer Should Actually Buy
Layer coverage is theory. Here is the prescription by business type, in euros. Every one of these is two or three paid licences, not one and not six.
- Solo instalador, up to 3 jobs a month. One SurgePV seat for design and presupuestos, the inverter brand’s free portal for monitoring, Datadis for consumption curves and a basic Holded plan for facturas. Two paid licences, roughly €1,200 to €2,000 a year. Do not buy a field tool yet, and do not sell a colectivo until you have priced the settlement work.
- Residential installer, 10 to 20 jobs a month, two crews. Three to four licences, roughly €10,000 to €16,000 a year. This is the only shape where a fourth licence is genuinely justified, because the settlement work is continuous and unglamorous.
- O&M-heavy business on a large installed base. STEL Order as the operational centre, a hardware-agnostic monitoring platform once performance guarantees are in play, Holded for contract billing and a single SurgePV seat for the retrofit and repowering work that arrives with every service call. Three licences, roughly €6,000 to €12,000 a year plus per-plant monitoring fees.
The pattern is consistent. Design and proposals is the layer worth consolidating into one licence, because splitting it costs both money and number consistency.
