Factory rooftop solar in the Mandal–Becharaji SIR.

Press shops, paint lines and component machining in the Mandal–Becharaji Special Investment Region all run through daylight, which is when a rooftop plant produces. Heaven Green Energy designs the array around your shed and your UGVCL connection, using modules as an authorised channel partner of Adani and Qbits inverters, then maintains it.

The short answer

Factories in the Mandal–Becharaji Special Investment Region buy power from UGVCL, so a rooftop plant here is approved and metered by UGVCL under GERC rules. Every kilowatt yields 4 to 4.5 units a day, which puts a 250 kW array at 3.65 to 4.1 lakh units a year. Industrial units get no PM Surya Ghar subsidy but can claim 40% accelerated depreciation. Large plants are priced after a load study.

The region

What the Mandal–Becharaji SIR is, and what that means for your roof

This is a Special Investment Region built around vehicle manufacturing, spread across Mandal taluka in Ahmedabad district and Becharaji taluka in Mehsana district. Its roofs are large, its shifts are long, and its loads are mostly daytime.

Gujarat's list of state agencies includes a Mandal Becharaji regional development authority, based at Becharaji, which plans the region. Becharaji is a temple town and taluka headquarters in Mehsana district. Mandal is a taluka of Ahmedabad district, reached from Viramgam along State Highway 18. Inside the region, GIDC's 2026-27 allotment list for Ahmedabad shows Mandal (Japanese Industrial Zone) estates in two phases, alongside its older Viramgam estate.

The power side is simpler than the geography. Two districts do not mean two licensees. UGVCL's 2019 list of sub-divisions has a Mandal sub-division and a Becharaji sub-division, and GERC's recent tariff orders name no private licensee for this region. Torrent Power's licences in Gujarat cover Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, the Dahej SEZ and the Dholera SIR, which is a different investment region to the south. Still, check the licensee printed on your own bill before you apply, because a park developer can supply power under its own arrangement.

We will not tell you which manufacturers sit in the region, and you should doubt any installer who drops famous names. What matters is your own daytime load, your roof and your contract demand.

Press shops and body welding

Stamping presses and spot-welding lines pull heavy, pulsed current while the shift runs. Solar trims the units drawn from UGVCL during those hours. It does not smooth the peaks, so we size the inverter interface against the welding load and check voltage dips and harmonics at survey.

Paint shops and curing ovens

Paint booths need constant air handling, and curing ovens add fans, pumps and controls even where heat comes from gas. That electrical base load runs all day, which suits rooftop generation well. Paint shop roofs also carry ducts and exhaust stacks, so shading and access shape the layout.

Component machining and moulding

Tier suppliers run CNC machines, injection moulding, compressors and chillers on one or two shifts. The daylight shift lines up with generation, and the second shift draws from the grid. We map both shifts from your meter data before choosing the plant size.

Warehousing, logistics and stores

Parts stores and dispatch sheds have big roofs and small loads: lighting, charging docks and fans. On their own they would export most of what a full-roof plant produces. We cap such plants to on-site use unless the GERC banking terms for your connection make export worthwhile.

How the numbers work

Sizing a plant in units, not promises

A factory plant earns its keep through units you no longer buy. Your tariff category, demand charges and shift pattern decide the rupee value, so we work in units here and put the money figures in your written proposal.

Daylight consumption is the starting point. A shadow-free roof in this part of Gujarat returns 4 to 4.5 units per kW per day across the year. That makes a 100 kW array about 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year, and a 500 kW array about 7.3 to 8.2 lakh. Set those numbers beside what your meter records between roughly nine and five. The share used on site is what you value most.

Contract demand limits the size. UGVCL approves a plant against your sanctioned load or contract demand, so the roof is rarely the binding constraint for a large unit. Expect fewer units bought, not a lower maximum demand. A press line can still hit its peak on an overcast afternoon. We read a full year of bills, and HT interval data where you have it, before we commit to a size.

Tax replaces the household subsidy. PM Surya Ghar covers homes only. Your business can claim 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. From 22 Sep 2025, solar equipment carries 5% GST and services 18%, with services taken as 30% of a turnkey contract, so the blended rate is about 8.9%. For a sense of scale, the indicative installed market band at 25 kW is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, roughly ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Plants above that are priced after a load study, since structure, cable length and HT metering move the cost.

Engineering for long-span industrial roofs

Newer sheds here were built for production, not for an array. We check three things before quoting: how much weight the roof can take, how the plant behaves in wind and fire, and how it ties into your substation.

Purlins, sheeting and added weight

Pre-engineered buildings have light purlins sized close to their design load. We record purlin section and spacing, sheet profile, coating condition and any roof insulation. Then we calculate the extra dead load and wind uplift from the array. If the margin is thin, we propose a lighter rail system or reinforcement before you sign.

Wind, walkways and fire safety

Fixings go into purlins through sealed clamps or standing-seam clips, never into bare sheet. We keep walkways clear for cleaning, leave space around ridge vents, skylights and exhaust stacks, and plan fire access. The structure is bonded to earth, and lightning protection is matched to the roof height and layout.

HT connection, protection and approval drawings

Most large units here take supply at HT through their own transformer. The plant then connects on the LT side, behind your metering, with Qbits inverters placed near the LT panel. We design isolators, surge protection, earthing and anti-islanding settings, then submit the single-line diagram UGVCL needs to review.

UGVCL

Approvals: who does what.

UGVCL must approve and inspect your plant before it connects. A complete file with accurate drawings gets through faster, so we prepare it and stay with it until commissioning.

1

Load study and design file

We study your bills, connection type and contract demand, survey the roof and the LT panel, then produce the plant rating, layout and single-line diagram. This file is what UGVCL reviews, so we get it right first.

2

Application to UGVCL

We submit the application with your consumer number, plant capacity, drawings and equipment datasheets. UGVCL checks it against your sanctioned load and the local network, then approves it or asks for revisions.

Us, then UGVCL
3

Build and safety clearance

We install to the approved drawings and record earthing values, insulation tests and protection settings. Where your plant size needs Electrical Inspectorate clearance, we compile and follow up that file as well.

Inspection and connection

UGVCL inspects the plant and installs or certifies the meters. Once it energises the connection, generation shows on your bill. Our engineer attends the inspection so any query is closed on site.

UGVCL
Paying for it

Three ways to fund the plant.

How you fund the plant decides who claims depreciation and who carries the asset. Match the option to your tax position and capital budget.

Buy it on your balance sheet

Your company owns the plant and claims 40% accelerated depreciation in the year it is first used. This works best for a profitable unit paying tax. All generation is yours, and an AMC with us covers cleaning schedules, periodic inspection, inverter checks and performance reporting.

Term loan or equipment finance

Banks and NBFCs fund solar for manufacturers, and ownership, along with depreciation, stays with you. We provide the quotation, bill of materials and generation estimate a lender asks for. The lender fixes the rate and tenure, so compare total cost across offers, not just the EMI.

Third-party owned (OPEX)

A developer installs and owns the plant on your roof and bills you for each unit delivered. You avoid capital outlay but give up depreciation. Read the tenure, exit and buy-out clauses and the roof access terms closely, because the contract lasts as long as the plant does.

Where we work from

Heaven Green Energy's only office is at Mota Varachha, Surat. We serve the Mandal–Becharaji region and the wider Central and North Gujarat belt through our channel partner network and field engineering team. They carry out surveys, supervise installation and handle UGVCL coordination on site. We would rather you know this before signing than after.

01

Bills and screening · Day 1

You send a year of UGVCL bills and the unit location. We check connection type, contract demand and daytime use, and tell you honestly whether a survey is worth your time.

02

Site and load survey · Week 1

An engineer measures the roof, purlins, obstructions and cable routes, and inspects the LT panel and transformer room. Where useful we log the load to see the real shift profile.

03

Design and quotation · Week 2

You get the layout, single-line diagram, itemised bill of materials and a generation estimate in units. The price comes from this design, never from a per-kW rate card.

04

Approval and build · Weeks 3 to 8

We file with UGVCL, procure Adani modules and Qbits inverters, and install in windows that avoid production stoppages. Roof penetrations are sealed the same day they are made.

05

Commissioning and upkeep · After approval

UGVCL inspects and connects the plant. We hand over test records and warranties, switch on monitoring, and begin the agreed maintenance schedule.

Six things to check with any vendor.

  1. UGVCL supplies the Mandal–Becharaji SIR through its Mandal and Becharaji sub-divisions, and GERC's tariff orders show no separate licensee for the region.
  2. A kilowatt of rooftop solar yields 4 to 4.5 units a day here, so 250 kW gives about 3.65 to 4.1 lakh units a year.
  3. Factories cannot claim PM Surya Ghar. They claim 40% accelerated depreciation on the plant instead.
  4. Turnkey GST blends to about 8.9%: 5% on equipment plus 18% on a 30% service share.
  5. Contract demand and daytime load set the plant size, and HT units usually connect on the LT side.
  6. Pre-engineered shed roofs need a purlin and uplift check, and large plants are priced only after a load study.
Questions

Industrial solar in Mandal–Becharaji, answered.

Cost & output

What does a factory rooftop plant cost in the Mandal–Becharaji SIR?
For a 25 kW plant the indicative installed market band in Gujarat is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, about ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Bigger plants are priced after a load study, because roof reinforcement, cable runs and HT metering change the cost. Every quote comes with an itemised bill of materials.
How many units does a 500 kW plant produce here?
Roughly 7.3 to 8.2 lakh units a year, based on 4 to 4.5 units per kW per day on an unshaded roof. Output dips in the monsoon and peaks from March to May. Your proposal shows a month-by-month estimate so you can compare it with your shift calendar.
Will solar lower the maximum demand on my HT bill?
Do not count on it. Solar cuts the units you draw from UGVCL, but a press line or chiller can set the month's peak during a cloudy spell or a night shift. Treat unit reduction as the benefit. We review your demand history so the forecast matches what the meter records.

Licensee & approvals

Who supplies power in the Mandal–Becharaji SIR: UGVCL or someone else?
UGVCL. Its sub-division list includes Mandal and Becharaji, and GERC's current tariff orders name no other licensee for this region. Torrent Power holds the Dholera SIR licence, not this one. If your unit sits in a developer-run park, confirm the licensee printed on your bill before applying.
What does UGVCL need before connecting an industrial rooftop plant?
An application with your consumer number, plant capacity, single-line diagram and equipment datasheets, then an inspection once the plant is built. UGVCL checks the size against your sanctioned load and the network. We prepare the file, respond to queries and attend the inspection with your team.
Who sets the banking and net metering terms for a factory plant?
GERC, through its regulations, read with the Gujarat Solar Power Policy. UGVCL applies those terms and installers have no say over them. Rules vary with consumer category and plant type, so we confirm the current position for your connection in writing before fixing the plant size.

Roof & engineering

Can a pre-engineered shed in the SIR carry a solar array?
Often yes, but only after a check. Pre-engineered buildings use purlins sized close to their design load, so we measure them, assess sheeting and insulation, and calculate added dead load and wind uplift. If the margin is thin we propose a lighter mounting or reinforcement first.
Can panels go on a paint shop or a roof with exhaust stacks?
Yes, with a layout that respects them. Stacks, vents and ducts cast shadows and need clearance for maintenance and heat. We map every obstruction during the survey, keep the array clear of exhaust paths and leave walkways, so plant upkeep and process upkeep do not clash.
How does the plant connect if my unit takes HT supply?
Usually on the LT side of your transformer, behind the main HT meter. Protection, metering and drawings have to reflect that arrangement. We document the interface for UGVCL's review and set inverter protection so the plant disconnects correctly whenever grid supply fails.

Finance & tax

Is there a subsidy for factory solar in the Mandal–Becharaji region?
Not under PM Surya Ghar, which is for residential consumers. A factory claims 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. Your chartered accountant should confirm how that fits your tax position before you choose between owning and OPEX.
Which GST rate applies to an industrial solar contract?
Since 22 Sep 2025, 5% on solar equipment and 18% on services. A turnkey contract treats 30% of its value as service, so the blended rate comes to about 8.9%. A GST-registered manufacturer may be able to take input tax credit, which your accountant should verify.
