Factory rooftop solar in Sanand GIDC.

Most Sanand GIDC units run machines through the day, and a shed-roof plant generates in exactly those hours. We study your UGVCL bills, check the purlins, design the array and file the licensee's papers. Modules come through our role as an authorised channel partner of Adani; inverters are Qbits. We work from Surat.

The short answer

A factory in Sanand GIDC buys its grid power from UGVCL, not Torrent Power, so the rooftop solar application goes to the UGVCL sub-division on your bill. Every kilowatt on an unshaded shed yields 4 to 4.5 units a day, so 250 kW makes roughly 3.65 to 4.1 lakh units a year. Factories get no PM Surya Ghar subsidy; they claim 40% accelerated depreciation. Plants over 25 kW are priced after a load study.

The estate

Sanand's GIDC estates and what that means for your roof

Sanand is GIDC's large estate west of Ahmedabad, built around automotive and engineering units. For a solar buyer the scale matters less than two things: your daytime load and the condition of your shed.

GIDC's land portal lists Sanand-II in Ahmedabad district as an unsaturated estate with 2,113 plots spread over roughly 2,443 hectares. As of October 2026 it shows 1,383 of those plots allotted and 730 still open, offered as industrial, commercial and utility plots. The portal's sector filter even carries a category called Sanand Multi National, alongside Auto Vendor, Engineering and Plastic Engineering. So you are in an estate that is still filling up, with new sheds going up beside working ones.

GIDC has also planned a Women Industrial Park of about 18.3 hectares inside Sanand-II. Its brief describes 199 small plots of 500 to 1,000 square metres on 99-year leases, aimed at micro and small enterprises run by women. Those owners face the same questions as any other plot holder, only on smaller roofs.

Electricity here comes from UGVCL. Ahmedabad addresses confuse people, because Torrent Power holds the licence inside Ahmedabad city. Sanand is outside that area, and UGVCL's own sub-division list names Sanand-1 and Sanand-2 offices. We do not claim any named estate company as a client. What we offer is a method for sizing a plant against your load, your roof and your sanctioned demand.

Machining and press shops on a day shift

CNC centres, presses and welding lines that run from morning to evening sit almost entirely inside the solar window. Most of what the array makes is used on the spot, so you rely less on export terms. This is the easiest load in the estate to match.

Moulding, extrusion and heating loads

Plastic moulding machines and heater bands draw a heavy, steady load once the barrel is up to temperature. If you run two or three shifts, solar covers only the daylight part. We size against your daytime units rather than the monthly total, so the plant is not oversized for the night shift.

Compressed air, cooling and paint lines

Compressors, chillers and paint-booth fans often peak in the hot afternoons from March to June, which is when your roof produces most. We log the compressor and cooling load at survey, because these motors frequently set your recorded maximum demand.

New sheds still being commissioned

Many Sanand-II plots are recent allotments, so your load may still be growing. We can design the plant in phases, with structure and cabling sized for a later extension, and file only what your present sanctioned load allows today.

How the numbers work

Factory solar economics measured in units

We size a Sanand plant on the units you use in daylight, not on a promised rupee saving. Your tariff category, demand charges and shift pattern decide the money, and we only work that out from your own bills.

Daytime consumption sets the useful size. One kilowatt on an unshaded Sanand shed gives 4 to 4.5 units a day over the year. A 100 kW plant therefore yields around 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units annually, and 500 kW around 7.3 to 8.2 lakh. Compare those figures with what your meter records during working hours. Units you consume as they are generated are the most valuable units the plant makes.

Your sanctioned load caps the plant. UGVCL checks a rooftop request against the load or contract demand on your connection, so filling every square metre of roof is rarely possible. Solar also cuts units more than it cuts recorded peak demand, because a cloudy afternoon still sees the machines pull full power from the grid. If you expect to expand, a load enhancement may need to come first.

Tax replaces subsidy for a factory. PM Surya Ghar covers homes only. A profitable firm that owns the plant claims 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. Since 22 Sep 2025, GST is 5% on solar equipment and 18% on the service portion, taken as 30% of a supply-and-install contract, so the blended rate is about 8.9%. As a reference point, a 25 kW plant in Gujarat sits in a market band of ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, or about ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Anything bigger is priced only after a load study, since structure, cable length and metering change the figure.

Generation from verified Gujarat constants (4 to 4.5 units per kW per day)
Plant sizeUnits a year
25 kW36,500 – 41,063
50 kW73,000 – 82,125
100 kW1,46,000 – 1,64,250
250 kW3,65,000 – 4,10,625
500 kW7,30,000 – 8,21,250

Indicative installed cost at 25 kW: ₹10.75–13.50 lakh (market range, not a quotation). Larger plants are priced after a load study of your bills and roof.

Engineering checks on a Sanand-II shed

We confirm the roof can carry the plant before we draw a single panel. Then we design for wind and maintenance access, and finally for a clean, documented connection to your switchgear.

Sheets, purlins and the added load

Pre-engineered sheds in a new estate are usually designed close to their limit. We record purlin size, spacing and gauge, the sheet profile and any corrosion, then calculate the extra dead load. If the structure falls short, you hear it before signing, together with the strengthening or lighter layout we would propose.

Wind uplift, leaks and safe access

Rails are fixed into the purlins, not just the sheet, and every penetration is sealed against monsoon leaks. We keep walkways for cleaning, leave skylights and ridge vents clear, and bond the structure to earth. Lightning protection is laid out for your roof height and the array footprint.

Inverter placement and the UGVCL interface

Qbits inverters go close to the main LT panel to keep AC cable runs short. The design adds DC and AC isolation, surge protection, earth pits and the meter arrangement UGVCL asks for. On an HT connection, the plant ties in on the LT side of your transformer, and the drawings show it.

UGVCL

Approvals: who does what.

UGVCL must approve the plant before it is energised. We prepare the whole file, keep the drawings matched to what is built, and attend the inspection with you.

1

Bill review, roof survey and SLD

We read twelve months of bills, your sanctioned load and connection type, then survey the shed. The output is a plant rating, a layout and a single-line diagram that UGVCL will review.

2

Application to the Sanand sub-division

We file with your consumer number, plant rating, diagram and equipment datasheets. UGVCL checks the request against your sanctioned load and the feeder, then approves it or asks for changes.

3

Installation and safety documents

We build to the approved design and compile earthing results, test reports and protection settings. Where your plant size needs Electrical Inspectorate clearance, we prepare and follow up that file as well.

Inspection, meters and switch-on

UGVCL inspects the plant and fits or certifies the metering. Generation starts showing on your bill once the plant is energised. Our engineer attends so any query is closed on the day.

UGVCL
Paying for it

Three ways to fund the plant.

You have three ways to fund a plant. The right one depends on your tax position and on whether you want the asset on your books.

Buy it with your own capital

The firm owns the plant and claims 40% accelerated depreciation from the year it is first put to use. This suits a taxpaying unit with spare cash or credit. You keep every unit generated, and our AMC covers inspections, cleaning plans and inverter health.

Term loan or equipment finance

Banks and NBFCs lend to MSMEs against solar plants, and you remain the owner for depreciation. We supply the quotation, bill of materials and generation estimate lenders want. The lender fixes rate and tenure, so compare the full cost of each offer before choosing.

Third-party ownership (RESCO)

A developer owns the plant on your roof and bills you for the units it supplies. You spend no capital and claim no depreciation. Check the tenure, buy-out clause and roof-access terms carefully, and confirm your GIDC lease allows the arrangement before you sign.

From enquiry to export

How the project runs.

From first call to commissioning, a Sanand GIDC project follows five stages. Durations depend on plant size and UGVCL's queue.

Where we work from

Heaven Green Energy's only office is at Mota Varachha, Surat. We have no branch in Sanand or Ahmedabad. Sanand GIDC projects are run by our field engineering team, who travel from Surat for surveys, installation supervision and UGVCL inspections, supported by our channel partner network. We say this before you sign, not after.

01

Bills and load study · Week 1

You share bills and shift timings. We map daytime consumption against expected generation and agree a size range with you before anyone climbs the roof.

02

Roof survey · Week 1 to 2

Our engineer travels from Surat to measure purlins, sheet condition, shade from vents and the cable route to your main panel.

03

Design and quotation · Week 2 to 3

You get the layout, single-line diagram, generation estimate in units and a firm price. Nothing is ordered until you approve the design.

04

UGVCL approval · Depends on queue

We file with the Sanand sub-division on your bill and answer its queries. Material is staged so installation starts soon after approval.

05

Build and commissioning · Plant-size dependent

We install around your shifts, test, attend UGVCL's inspection and hand over monitoring access. The AMC starts from commissioning.

Six things to check with any vendor.

  1. Sanand GIDC is UGVCL territory, not Torrent Power, so your file goes to the Sanand sub-division on your bill.
  2. Each kilowatt on an unshaded shed gives 4 to 4.5 units a day; 250 kW makes about 3.65 to 4.1 lakh units a year.
  3. Your sanctioned load limits plant size, so a load enhancement may come before a large plant.
  4. Factories get no PM Surya Ghar money; the tax benefit is 40% accelerated depreciation.
  5. GST on a turnkey plant is about 8.9% blended since 22 Sep 2025.
  6. Plants above 25 kW are priced after a load study and roof survey, never off a web page.
Questions

Industrial solar in Sanand GIDC, answered.

Cost & output

What does a factory plant in Sanand GIDC cost?
We price plants above 25 kW only after a load study, because purlin work, structure height and cable runs differ from shed to shed. For reference, 25 kW in Gujarat falls in a market band of ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh. Your quotation follows the survey and lists every line item.
How many units will a 100 kW plant make in Sanand?
Roughly 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year. That follows from 4 to 4.5 units per kW per day on a clean, unshaded roof. Estate dust, shade from ridge vents and skipped cleaning push real output below the band, so we set a cleaning schedule with you.
Why will you not tell me my saving upfront?
Because the saving depends on your tariff category, demand charges and how much generation you use on site, and we have not seen your bills. We give output in units and the share you consume directly. Then we work out the rupee effect with you from your actual UGVCL bills.

Licensee & approvals

Is Sanand GIDC supplied by Torrent Power or UGVCL?
UGVCL. Torrent Power holds the licence inside Ahmedabad city, and Sanand lies outside it even though addresses mention Ahmedabad district. UGVCL's sub-division list shows Sanand-1 under Bopal division and Sanand-2 under Bavla division. Your bill names the sub-division that receives your rooftop application.
How does UGVCL net metering work for an industrial unit?
We file the rooftop application on your consumer number with drawings and datasheets. UGVCL checks feasibility against your sanctioned load and feeder, then inspects and meters the plant. How exported units are credited follows the GERC order in force when you commission, so we confirm it at that time.
Do I need GIDC's permission to put solar on my shed?
Check your lease deed first. GIDC plots are leased, so read the allotment and lease terms on roof structures, and keep the papers ready for the survey. If you rent the shed from another plot holder, get the owner's written consent before any work starts.

Roof & engineering

Can a new pre-engineered shed carry a solar plant?
Often, but not automatically. Pre-engineered sheds are designed tightly, so we check purlin size, spacing and the sheet profile against the added load. Where the margin is thin, we propose strengthening or a lighter layout before you commit, rather than discovering it during installation.
How much roof does a 100 kW plant need?
There is no fixed figure we would stand behind. Tilt, row spacing, walkways, skylights and ridge vents all change usable area from shed to shed. The survey measures clear roof section by section and turns it into a plant size you can plan around.
Will installation interrupt production?
Very little. Roof work happens above the shop floor and is scheduled around your shifts. The only stoppage is a short, planned shutdown to connect into the main panel, which we agree with your maintenance team in advance, usually on the weekly off day.

Finance & tax

Can my Sanand unit claim accelerated depreciation?
Yes, if the firm owns the plant and pays income tax. Solar power generating systems carry 40% depreciation under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. How much you claim in the first year depends on when the plant is put to use, so confirm timing with your chartered accountant.
What GST will my factory plant carry?
Since 22 September 2025, solar equipment carries 5% GST and the service share, treated as 30% of a supply-and-install contract, carries 18%. The blend works out at about 8.9%. A GST-registered unit may be able to claim input tax credit; ask your tax adviser to confirm.
