Palanpur's commercial roofs belong to three trades: stone cutting on the Abu Highway, dairy-linked business across the district, and the shops, clinics and hospitals of a district headquarters. Most of them draw power in daylight, which suits rooftop solar.
The marble and granite units are the clearest fit. Central MSME records list cutting and polishing units along the Palanpur–Abu Road highway around Malana Patiya and the stretch near the Sai Baba temple. Gang saws, cutters and polishing lines run through the working day, so a shed-roof array is consumed almost entirely on site. The catch is stone powder: it coats panels faster than ordinary road dust, so we plan washing points and access walkways at design stage. We also keep inverters in a closed, ventilated room away from the cutting floor.
Palanpur is also the headquarters of Banas Dairy, the Banaskantha district milk union registered in 1969, which collects millions of litres a day from village societies. That money circulates through the taluka's villages, and it is a reason farm households here often have both the roof and the means for a home system.
Diamonds are the town's other name. Palanpuri Jain families are known worldwide in the diamond trade, and polishing is listed among local industries. A small polishing workshop has a steady daytime lighting and machine load, a good match for a modest array on its own roof.
Industrial plots sit at GIDC Palanpur and at the GIDC estate on the Palanpur–Deesa highway at Chandisar. None of these premises qualifies for PM Surya Ghar. Read accelerated depreciation on solar for the tax treatment, and zero down payment solar if you would rather not tie up working capital.
- Marble and granite units at Malana Patiya and along Abu Highway.
- Plots in GIDC Palanpur and the Chandisar GIDC estate.
- Diamond polishing workshops in the town.
- Hospitals, schools, hotels and shops around Highway Char Rasta and the bazaars.
Farm connections need a different route. Gujarat runs agricultural pumps on separate farm feeders, split from village household supply under the Jyotigram scheme, and PM Surya Ghar does not cover them. For a borewell or tube-well pump, see our PM-KUSUM page and the GEDA guide to KUSUM in Gujarat. If your farmhouse has a separate residential connection, that house can still claim PM Surya Ghar.
