Kalol earns its living from industry. Two GIDC estates, a fertiliser complex and a belt of chemical, pigment and metal units run mostly on day shifts, which is when a rooftop array produces.
GIDC runs two estates in the taluka. The first is Kalol (listed by GIDC as Kalol N.G., North Gujarat, to separate it from Kalol in Panchmahal) on the town's east side. The larger Chhatral estate sits up the Mehsana highway, built out in several phases. Chhatral's units lean towards chemicals, pigments, pharma intermediates, stainless and tube makers, and engineering shops. Khatraj has its own industrial estate post office near Santej, and IFFCO's Kalol fertiliser complex, its first ammonia-urea plant from 1974, stands at Saij. Kalol East grew up around the Sintex plastics works.
For these units the economics turn on daytime use. A reactor, dryer, compressor or CNC line that runs from 9 to 6 absorbs most of what the roof makes, so very little is exported. A two-shift unit that idles on Sundays should be sized from a full year of bills, because Sunday generation is exported and settled at the GERC rate rather than used.
Chemical and pigment plants need extra care with roofs. Acidic or alkaline fumes speed up corrosion of steel structures and sheet fixings. Where the process calls for it, we specify heavier galvanising and stainless fasteners, and we keep inverters in a ventilated electrical room, away from process vents.
Industrial and commercial connections are outside PM Surya Ghar. Read accelerated depreciation on solar for the tax treatment and zero down payment solar if you would rather not tie up working capital.

Agriculture still covers most of the taluka outside these pockets. Gujarat's Jyotigram scheme put farm pumps on separate agricultural feeders, apart from village household supply, and PM Surya Ghar does not pay for pump connections. For a solar pump, see our PM-KUSUM page and the GEDA guide to KUSUM in Gujarat. If your farmhouse in Dingucha, Soja or Nardipur has a separate residential meter, that house can still claim PM Surya Ghar.
