Industrial rooftop solar for Rajkot's engineering units.

Machining lines, pump test benches and fettling shops in Rajkot draw their heaviest load in daylight, which is exactly when a roof array produces. We survey your shed, size the plant against your PGVCL bill, file the paperwork and maintain the system afterwards. Modules come through our authorised channel partnership with Adani; inverters are Qbits.

The short answer

Rajkot's factories, from the Aji estate inside the city to Shapar-Veraval and Metoda outside it, are supplied by Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL). A rooftop plant here produces 4 to 4.5 units per kW a day, so 150 kW yields about 2.19 to 2.46 lakh units a year. Firms cannot use PM Surya Ghar; they claim 40% accelerated depreciation. Plants above 25 kW are quoted after a load study.

Rajkot's industrial areas

An engineering district built on castings and engines

Rajkot's industry grew out of making spare parts, then whole machines. That history explains the loads we find on its roofs today: motors, furnaces, compressors and machine tools, mostly running on a day shift.

The government's own account is the best starting point. The Rajkot District Human Development Report is published by the Gujarat Social Infrastructure Development Society and hosted on rajkot.nic.in. It says manufacturing began around 1960 to replace machine spares that had stopped arriving from Europe. Foundries and forging shops came first, then complete machines. The report lists twelve clusters in the district. Among them are diesel engines and pumps, machine tools (conventional, NC and CNC), ball and roller bearings, foundry, and auto parts such as connecting rods, shafts and pistons. It also records about 500 foundries, which grew as backward integration for oil engine makers.

Geography follows that pattern. The same report says the first industrial estate in the district was set up at Aji, on the city's eastern side. PGVCL still runs an Aji Industrial sub-division under its Rajkot City-1 division. South and west of the city, PGVCL's Rajkot Rural division carries separate Shapar-Veraval and Metoda sub-divisions. Our estate pages for Shapar-Veraval and Metoda GIDC cover those two areas in detail.

We name no Rajkot company as a client or as an occupant of any estate. A plant is sized from your bill, your shed and your shift pattern, not from what the neighbours make.

Engine and pump assembly

Assembly lines, machining cells and test benches for engines, centrifugal and submersible pumps run hard through the working day. Test benches draw short heavy bursts, so we record current over several days before sizing. Most of that load falls between ten and four, which keeps solar output on site.

Foundries and fettling shops

Induction furnaces dominate a foundry bill, while sand plants, shot blasting and grinders add steady motor load. A furnace can dwarf any rooftop plant, so solar usually covers the auxiliaries rather than the melt. Heat, fume and fine dust over the roof also push cleaning and inspection intervals shorter.

Bearing and auto-part machining

Bearing rings, shafts, pistons and connecting rods pass through lathes, grinders, heat treatment and washing lines. Grinding and turning shops often run two shifts, which leaves part of the load after sunset. We size to the daylight share and leave the evening load to the grid.

Machine-tool builders

Firms that build lathes and CNC machines load their own sheds with fabrication, machining, painting and trial runs. Demand swings by order book, not by season. We study twelve months of bills, so a plant sized during a busy quarter does not sit oversized through a slow one.

How the numbers work

What a Rajkot factory plant returns, measured in units

The page reports output in units because your rupee result depends on your PGVCL tariff category and demand charges. We work out the money from your own bills at the survey, with you present.

Match the plant to daytime consumption. On a clean, unshaded Rajkot roof each kilowatt produces 4 to 4.5 units a day across the year. That makes about 2.19 to 2.46 lakh units a year from 150 kW, and roughly 1.46 to 1.64 lakh from 100 kW. Set that against what your meter records during working hours. A unit that consumes everything the array makes during the day gets the most from each panel.

Sanctioned load and maximum demand behave differently. PGVCL approves rooftop capacity against the load sanctioned on your connection, so the roof alone does not set the rating. Solar lowers the energy units you buy from the grid. It does not guarantee a lower recorded demand, because a cloudy afternoon with a furnace and every motor running still pulls the full peak from PGVCL. We read the demand column on a year of bills before proposing any size.

Depreciation, not subsidy. PM Surya Ghar is for homes. A manufacturing firm instead claims 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. Since 22 Sep 2025 GST is 5% on solar equipment and 18% on services; with services taken as 30% of a supply-and-install contract the blended rate is about 8.9%. The indicative Gujarat band for a 25 kW system is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh installed, about ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Bigger plants are priced only after a load study, because roof repairs, cable runs and metering vary from shed to shed.

25 kW36,500 – 41,063
50 kW73,000 – 82,125

Engineering checks for Rajkot sheds

We confirm three things before a module is ordered. The shed must carry the array, and the array must stay fixed and safe to walk. Then we settle how it ties into your switchgear.

Shed structure and sheeting

Aji's older sheds and newer buildings at Shapar or Metoda differ in purlin section, spacing and sheet thickness. We measure each, calculate the added dead load and inspect sheets for corrosion and thinning, especially above foundry bays. If the roof needs strengthening or re-sheeting first, the proposal says so in writing and prices it separately.

Wind, heat and access

Rails fix into the purlins with sealed penetrations so the shed stays dry in the monsoon. We keep arrays clear of furnace vents, chimneys and roof extractors, whose heat and fume foul the glass. Walkways for cleaning, earthing of every structure and lightning protection sized to the roof height are part of the drawing.

Panel tie-in and PGVCL interface

Qbits inverters are placed close to the main LT panel to keep AC cable short. The design carries DC and AC isolation, surge protection, earth pits and the metering PGVCL asks for. On an HT connection the plant ties in on the LT side of your transformer, and the single-line diagram shows that point clearly.

PGVCL

Approvals: who does what.

PGVCL has to approve the plant before it is energised. Filing with the sub-division printed on your bill, with drawings that match the roof, avoids most delays.

1

Records and design

We gather a year of bills and your sanctioned load, survey the shed and panel room, and prepare the layout, single-line diagram and datasheets. Your bill tells us whether Aji Industrial, Shapar-Veraval, Metoda or another sub-division holds the connection.

Us
2

Application and technical check

We lodge the rooftop application with that PGVCL office. The licensee checks the proposed capacity against your sanctioned load and the local network, then approves it or returns it with queries, which we answer and refile.

Us, then PGVCL
3

Installation and safety papers

We build to the approved drawings and record insulation tests, earth resistance and protection settings. If the plant size needs Electrical Inspectorate clearance, we prepare and follow that file until the certificate is issued.

Us
4

Inspection and energising

PGVCL inspects the installation, fixes or certifies the meters and allows the plant to run. Solar generation starts appearing on your bill from that cycle. Our engineer is present on the day to answer any site query.

PGVCL
Paying for it

Three ways to fund the plant.

The payment route depends on your tax position and whether you want the plant on your own books. Rajkot manufacturers use all three of these routes.

Pay from your own funds

The company owns the plant and claims 40% accelerated depreciation in the year it is first used. This suits a profitable unit with cash to spare. Every unit generated is yours, and an AMC with us covers cleaning, inspection visits, inverter checks and the generation reports your auditor will request.

Bank or NBFC term loan

Banks and NBFCs lend to MSMEs for rooftop plants, and the asset still sits on your books for depreciation. We supply the quotation, bill of materials and month-by-month output in units that a lender asks for. Rates and tenure are the lender's call, so compare total repayment, not just the instalment.

RESCO or third-party ownership

A developer installs and owns the plant on your shed and bills you for the units it delivers. You spend no capital but also claim no depreciation. Read the agreement term, buy-out values and roof access clauses closely, because they tie up your premises for the whole contract period.

From enquiry to export

How the project runs.

Five stages take a Rajkot factory from first call to a running plant, and you approve each document before PGVCL sees it.

Where we work from

Heaven Green Energy is headquartered at Mota Varachha, Surat, and that is our only office. We serve Rajkot's industrial areas and the wider Saurashtra region through our channel partner network and field engineering team, who run surveys, supervise installation and attend PGVCL inspections on site. We have no Rajkot branch, and we say so before you sign rather than after.

01

Bill review · Day 1

You send twelve months of PGVCL bills and plot details. We check sanctioned load, connection type and daytime use, and tell you plainly if the roof is not worth surveying.

02

Shed and load survey · Week 1

An engineer measures purlins, sheeting and shade, traces the cable route and opens the main panel. Where furnace or test-bench load is unclear, we log it over several days.

03

Design and proposal · Week 2

You receive the layout, single-line diagram, a bill of materials with makes and quantities, and expected generation by month. The price is built from that design, not from a rate card.

04

Approval and installation · Weeks 3 to 8

We file with PGVCL, procure Adani modules and Qbits inverters, and install around your production schedule. Roof work is staged so the shed stays weathertight and machines keep running.

05

Commissioning and AMC · After PGVCL approval

PGVCL inspects and connects the plant. We hand over test records and warranties, start remote monitoring, then begin the cleaning and inspection schedule written into your contract.

Six things to check with any vendor.

  1. PGVCL supplies Rajkot's industrial areas. Torrent Power holds no licence in Rajkot, so any advice pointing you there is wrong.
  2. PGVCL lists an Aji Industrial sub-division in the city and Shapar-Veraval and Metoda sub-divisions in Rajkot Rural. Your bill names your office.
  3. Each kilowatt of rooftop solar here makes 4 to 4.5 units a day, so a 150 kW plant yields about 2.19 to 2.46 lakh units a year.
  4. Factories receive no PM Surya Ghar subsidy. The business claims 40% accelerated depreciation instead.
  5. A turnkey contract carries about 8.9% blended GST: 5% on equipment, 18% on the 30% service share.
  6. In a foundry, solar usually serves the auxiliaries rather than the furnace. Plants above 25 kW are priced after a load study.
Questions

Industrial solar in Rajkot, answered.

Cost & output

How much does industrial rooftop solar cost in Rajkot?
At 25 kW, the indicative installed range in Gujarat is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, or about ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Larger factory plants are quoted only after a load study, since roof repairs, cable distances and metering change the figure. Every quote comes with an itemised bill of materials.
How many units will a 150 kW plant produce on a Rajkot shed?
About 2.19 to 2.46 lakh units a year, using 4 to 4.5 units per kW per day on an unshaded roof. Output rises in the dry season and drops during the monsoon, so the annual number is an average. Your proposal shows expected generation for each month.
Can rooftop solar run my foundry's induction furnace?
Rarely in full. An induction furnace usually needs far more power than a shed roof can produce. Solar is better matched to sand plants, compressors, shot blasting, grinders and lighting. We split your load by equipment at the survey and size the plant to the portion it can realistically serve.

Licensee & approvals

Is my Rajkot factory on PGVCL or Torrent Power?
PGVCL. Torrent Power's licences cover Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and part of Surat, not Rajkot. PGVCL's own office list shows an Aji Industrial sub-division in the city and Shapar-Veraval and Metoda sub-divisions in Rajkot Rural. If your unit is inside a private park, confirm the licensee printed on your bill.
Which PGVCL office receives my rooftop application?
The sub-division named on your bill. A unit at Aji files with a city office under Rajkot City-1, while Shapar-Veraval and Metoda units fall under Rajkot Rural. Sending the file to the wrong desk wastes weeks, so we read your bill first and file with the right office.
Who decides net metering rules for PGVCL industrial consumers?
The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission, through its orders and regulations, read alongside the state's solar power policy. PGVCL applies those terms, and no installer can alter them. Rules vary by consumer category, so we confirm the current position for your connection in writing before the plant size is fixed.

Roof & engineering

Can an old Aji estate shed take a solar array?
Often, but only after it is checked. Older sheds can have light purlins or corroded sheeting. We measure purlin size and spacing, inspect the sheets and calculate the extra load. Where strengthening or re-sheeting comes first, the proposal says so and prices that work separately.
Does foundry heat and dust affect solar output?
Yes. Fine sand and fume settle on the glass and cut output, and hot exhaust near panels raises their temperature. We keep the array away from furnace vents and extractors, specify coated fixings, and write a shorter cleaning interval into the maintenance plan for foundry roofs.
How does solar connect to an HT factory supply?
Usually on the LT side, behind your own transformer. The single-line diagram, protection settings and metering must show this clearly for PGVCL's review. We set inverter and relay protection so the plant disconnects correctly when the grid fails, and document the tie-in for inspection.

Finance & tax

Can a Rajkot manufacturer claim the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
No. PM Surya Ghar covers residential connections only. A manufacturing company claims 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. Ask your chartered accountant how this fits your accounts before choosing between cash, a loan or a RESCO contract.
What GST applies to an industrial solar plant in Rajkot?
Since 22 Sep 2025, solar equipment carries 5% GST and services 18%. With services treated as 30% of a supply-and-install contract, the blended rate is about 8.9%. A GST-registered business may be able to claim input tax credit, which your accountant should confirm.
