Rooftop solar for engineering units in Metoda GIDC.

Machine shops, foundries and fabrication sheds in Metoda GIDC, Rajkot, draw most of their power while the sun is up. A plant on your own roof can carry part of that load. We design it around your PGVCL connection, use modules supplied as an authorised channel partner of Adani with Qbits inverters, and handle the licensee paperwork for you.

The short answer

A unit in Metoda GIDC, which official records call the Lodhika estate, buys power from PGVCL through its Metoda sub-division under the Rajkot Rural division. Rooftop solar there yields 4 to 4.5 units per kW each day, so a 200 kW plant makes about 2.92 to 3.29 lakh units a year. Factories get no PM Surya Ghar subsidy; they claim 40% accelerated depreciation. Plants above 25 kW are priced after a load study.

The estate

Metoda GIDC: Rajkot's large engineering estate in Lodhika taluka

Metoda is the everyday name for the GIDC estate that official tables list as Lodhika. It sits outside Rajkot city limits, in Lodhika taluka, and it is one of the largest manufacturing estates in the district by area and plot count.

The District Industrial Potential Survey of Rajkot district, updated for 2016-17 by the MSME Development Institute, lists the Lodhika GIDC estate at about 424 hectares. It had 1,150 plots allotted and 1,078 units in production at the time. No other GIDC estate in that table comes close on area. The same report names Rajkot and Metoda in Lodhika block as where most of the district's industry is located, and lists the G.I.D.C. (Lodhika) Industrial Association with its address on Kalawad Road, Metoda.

The report also places part of Rajkot's foundry cluster in the GIDC Lodhika area. It describes roughly 500 foundry units across Rajkot, mostly making grey iron castings, which grew up to supply the local diesel engine trade. Machine tools, auto parts, bearings and forgings are the other engineering lines the report associates with the district.

None of that tells you what a particular plot runs, and we will not name any company as a customer here. What it does tell you is the kind of roof and load we usually meet in Metoda: steel sheds, heavy motors, heat and fine dust. Each of those changes how a solar plant is designed, so the rest of this page deals with them in turn.

Foundry and melting loads

If your unit melts or heat-treats metal, the furnace is likely your biggest single load and it may run beyond daylight. Solar covers the share that falls in sun hours. We look at when the furnace actually runs, because a night melt changes how much generation you can use on site.

CNC machining and tool rooms

Lathes, machining centres and grinders draw a steady base load through the day shift. That profile lines up well with a rooftop curve. Sensitive controllers also mean the plant's power quality and earthing must be right, so we check harmonics and protection before the design is fixed.

Forging presses and fabrication

Presses, hammers and welding sets draw in sharp bursts rather than a smooth line. Solar does not flatten those peaks, but it does reduce the units behind them. We size on the daytime energy you consume, not on the instantaneous peak that the presses create.

Compressors, pumps and shot blasting

Air compressors, coolant pumps, dust collectors and blasting equipment run for most of a working shift. They form the dependable middle of the load. In many Metoda sheds these auxiliaries consume a large part of the daylight units, which makes them the easiest load for solar to carry.

How the numbers work

Sizing a Metoda plant in units, against your own connection

We size factory plants in units used during daylight. Rupee savings depend on your tariff category, demand charges and how much output you consume on site. So we work them out from your own bills rather than from a web page.

Daylight units decide the size. A clear, clean Metoda roof gives 4 to 4.5 units per kW each day across the year. A 100 kW plant makes about 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year, and a 200 kW plant about 2.92 to 3.29 lakh. Compare that with what your meter records between roughly nine in the morning and five in the evening. Where furnaces or a second shift run after dark, that night load stays on the grid whatever the roof size.

Your sanctioned load sets a ceiling. PGVCL considers a rooftop plant against your connection, not against your roof area, so a large shed does not automatically justify a large plant. Solar also cuts the units you buy more reliably than your recorded maximum demand, because a cloudy hour with the presses running still pulls full power from the grid. We study twelve months of bills, and where needed a short load log, before we propose a rating.

Tax replaces the subsidy. PM Surya Ghar applies to homes, so a factory instead claims 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. GST has been 5% on solar equipment and 18% on services since 22 Sep 2025. With the service share of a supply-and-install contract taken as 30%, the blend comes to about 8.9%. At 25 kW the indicative installed band in Gujarat is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, about ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Bigger plants are priced after a load study, since structure, cable length and metering move the cost.

Engineering for heat, dust and steel sheds in Metoda

Metoda roofs bring three problems that a showroom roof does not. They are shed structures sized for sheeting, airborne dust and soot from hot processes, and heavy motor loads on the electrical side.

Shed roof, purlins and ventilators

Many engineering sheds carry ridge ventilators, turbo vents or monitor roofs to clear heat from the floor. We map them, keep the array clear of their exhaust, and check purlin section and spacing against the added dead load. Where a purlin is undersized we propose strengthening or a lighter layout before anything is ordered.

Dust, soot and a cleaning plan

Fine dust from moulding sand, grinding and blasting settles on modules and cuts output between washes. We position the array upwind of stacks where the roof allows, and add walkways and water points for cleaning. The maintenance contract then sets a washing frequency based on what your process releases.

Motor loads, protection and the PGVCL interface

Large motors and furnaces can distort the supply and trip poorly set protection. We check harmonics and power factor, place Qbits inverters close to the main panel, and fit DC and AC isolation, surge protection and earthing. On an HT connection the plant joins on the LT side behind your transformer, documented for PGVCL.

PGVCL

Approvals: who does what.

PGVCL approves and inspects the plant before it is connected. We prepare the file from drawings that match what will be built, so queries are few.

1

Load study and drawings

We read your bills, consumer category and sanctioned load, survey the shed, then prepare the plant rating, array layout and single-line diagram. These are the documents the licensee reviews, so they are checked before filing.

Us
2

Application to PGVCL

We file the rooftop application with your consumer number, plant rating, diagram and equipment datasheets. PGVCL checks the request against your connection and the local network, then approves it or asks for changes.

Us, then PGVCL
3

Installation and safety clearance

We build to the approved design, record earthing values and protection settings, and compile test reports. Where your plant size requires a clearance from the Electrical Inspectorate, we prepare and follow up that file too.

4

Inspection, metering and connection

PGVCL inspects the plant and installs or certifies the meters. Once energised, generation shows on your bill. Our engineer attends the inspection so that any query is closed on the spot rather than by a second visit.

PGVCL
Paying for it

Three ways to fund the plant.

Three ways to fund a factory plant. The right one depends on your tax position and how your firm treats capital spending.

Buy the plant (capex)

Your firm owns the plant, books it as an asset and claims 40% accelerated depreciation from the year it is put to use. This suits a profitable unit with taxable income to set it against. You keep every unit generated, and the AMC covers washing, inspections and inverter checks.

Term loan or equipment finance

Banks and NBFCs lend to MSMEs for solar plants, and you still own the asset for depreciation. We provide the quotation, bill of materials and unit-wise generation estimate that lenders ask for. The lender decides the rate and tenure, so compare total cost rather than the headline rate.

Third-party ownership (RESCO)

A developer owns the plant on your roof and bills you for the units it supplies. You spend no capital, and you give up the depreciation. Read the tenure, buy-out and roof-access clauses closely, because they bind you for as long as the plant stands on the shed.

Where we work from

Heaven Green Energy's only office is at Mota Varachha, Surat. We do not have a branch in Rajkot. We serve Metoda GIDC and the wider Saurashtra region through our channel partner network and field engineering team, who carry out the survey, supervise installation and attend PGVCL inspections. We tell you this before you sign, not after.

01

Bills and first assessment · Day 1

You share twelve months of PGVCL bills and your plot details. We check connection type, sanctioned load and shift pattern, then tell you honestly whether a survey is worth your time.

02

Shed and load survey · Week 1

An engineer measures the roof, purlins, ventilators and shading, notes dust sources, and inspects the main panel. Where the load varies a lot we log it for several days.

03

Design and written proposal · Week 2

You receive the layout, single-line diagram, bill of materials with makes and quantities, and generation in units by month. The price follows from that design.

04

Approval and installation · Weeks 3 to 8

We file with PGVCL, procure Adani modules and Qbits inverters, and install in stages around your production so the shed stays sealed and lines keep running.

05

Inspection, handover, maintenance · After approval

PGVCL inspects and connects the plant. We hand over test reports and warranties, set up monitoring and begin the washing and inspection schedule written into the contract.

Six things to check with any vendor.

  1. Metoda GIDC appears in official tables as the Lodhika estate, about 424 hectares with 1,150 plots allotted in the 2016-17 district survey.
  2. PGVCL is the licensee; its customer-care table lists a Metoda sub-division under the Rajkot Rural division.
  3. Each kW yields 4 to 4.5 units a day, so a 200 kW plant makes about 2.92 to 3.29 lakh units a year.
  4. Night melts and second shifts stay on the grid; size the plant on daylight consumption and sanctioned load.
  5. Factories claim 40% accelerated depreciation, not PM Surya Ghar, and GST on a turnkey plant blends to about 8.9%.
  6. Dust from foundry and grinding work needs a written washing schedule; plants above 25 kW are priced after a load study.
Questions

Industrial solar in Metoda GIDC, answered.

Cost & output

What does a rooftop solar plant cost for a unit in Metoda GIDC?
At 25 kW the indicative installed market band in Gujarat is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, roughly ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Larger plants are quoted only after a load study, because purlin work, cable runs, protection and metering change the cost. Every quotation comes with a written bill of materials.
How many units will a 200 kW plant produce in Metoda?
About 2.92 to 3.29 lakh units a year on a clean, shadow-free roof, based on 4 to 4.5 units per kW per day. Summer months run above that average and monsoon months below it. Dust left on the modules lowers output, which is why the washing schedule sits in the contract.
My foundry melts at night. Is solar still worth it?
It can be, but only for your daytime load. Solar generates in sun hours, so a night melt stays on grid power. We separate day and night consumption from your records and size the plant to what the shed uses in daylight, such as machining, fettling, compressors and lighting.

Licensee & approvals

Which licensee supplies Metoda GIDC?
Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL). Its customer-care and fault-centre table lists a Metoda sub-division under the Rajkot Rural division, alongside Lodhika, Shapar-Veraval and others. Metoda is not served from the Rajkot City circle. Confirm the sub-division printed on your own bill before we file.
What does PGVCL need before it connects a factory plant?
An application with your consumer number, plant rating, single-line diagram and equipment datasheets, followed by an inspection of the finished plant and metering. PGVCL checks the size against your sanctioned load and the local network. We prepare the file, answer queries and attend the inspection.
Who sets net metering or banking terms for an industrial plant in Gujarat?
The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission, through its regulations, read with the Gujarat Solar Power Policy. PGVCL applies them; installers do not set them. Terms vary by consumer category and arrangement, so we confirm the current rules for your connection in writing before the plant size is fixed.

Roof & engineering

Can a foundry or machine-shop shed carry a solar array?
Usually, after checks. We measure purlin size and spacing, sheet profile and condition, and work out the added dead load. Ridge ventilators and turbo vents are mapped so the array does not block them. If a purlin is light we propose strengthening before you commit to anything.
How often will panels need washing in Metoda?
It depends on your process. Moulding sand, grinding and shot blasting put more dust on a roof than an assembly unit does. We judge the deposit rate at survey, set a washing frequency in the maintenance contract, and add walkways and water points so cleaning is safe and quick.
Will heavy motors or furnaces interfere with the plant?
They can if protection is set carelessly. Large motors and furnaces distort the supply and can trip inverters. We check harmonics and power factor at survey, coordinate protection settings with your switchgear, and on an HT connection join the plant on the LT side behind your transformer.

Finance & tax

Is there a subsidy for factory solar in Metoda GIDC?
Not under PM Surya Ghar, which covers homes and housing-society common areas. A factory claims 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. Ask your chartered accountant how that fits your firm's tax position before choosing capex or RESCO.
What GST rate applies to an industrial solar plant?
Since 22 Sep 2025, solar equipment attracts 5% GST and services 18%. In a supply-and-install contract the service share is taken as 30%, so the blended rate is about 8.9%. A GST-registered firm may be able to claim input tax credit; your accountant should confirm it.
