Commercial rooftop solar in Vadodara.
Shops, offices, clinics, campuses and hotels in Vadodara burn most of their power while the sun is up. A rooftop plant sized to that daytime draw cuts the units you buy from MGVCL. We design it, file the papers, install Adani modules as an authorised channel partner of Adani, and maintain the plant.

The short answer
A commercial building in Vadodara can carry a rooftop plant that offsets daytime units billed by MGVCL. Each kilowatt yields 4 to 4.5 units a day, so 50 kW gives roughly 73,000 to 82,000 units a year. Businesses get no PM Surya Ghar subsidy. A taxpaying owner can claim 40% accelerated depreciation instead. Plants above 25 kW are priced after a load study.

Which Vadodara buildings suit rooftop solar, and why
The deciding question is when your building draws power, not what trade you run. Most commercial premises in Vadodara peak between late morning and early evening, and that overlap decides how much of the output you use yourself.
Vadodara's commercial stock is mixed. Older market streets around Mandvi and Raopura have narrow, shared terraces. Newer complexes along Alkapuri, Race Course and Old Padra Road have larger flat roofs crowded with lift rooms, water tanks and chiller units. Hospitals, schools and colleges usually own their whole building, which makes them the easiest cases on paper. Shops and offices inside a complex rarely own the roof outright, so consent comes before design.
All of these buildings draw from Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL). The Vadodara district administration lists MGVCL as the electricity utility, and the company is headquartered at Sardar Patel Vidyut Bhavan on Race Course. Torrent Power holds no distribution licence in Vadodara, so a rooftop file here goes to MGVCL and nobody else. If your premises sits inside a special economic zone, read the licensee named on your own bill before you apply.
We do not publish client names in Vadodara and we would ask the same discipline of any installer who pitches you. What follows is how the four main load patterns behave, and what each means for plant size.
Shops and showrooms
Lighting, display cooling and split air conditioners run from opening time until late evening. The morning and afternoon share matches the solar curve closely. The evening hours do not, so we size against units drawn before sunset and leave the after-dark load on the grid, where it belongs.
Offices and IT floors
Office load follows the working day almost exactly: air conditioning, servers, lighting and lifts. Sundays and holidays are the weak point, because the roof keeps generating while the floors sit empty. We read your weekend consumption before sizing so that export days do not drive the design.
Hospitals and hotels
These buildings never switch off. Cooling, sterilisation, laundry, kitchens, pumps and lifts give a heavy base load around the clock. A rooftop plant covers part of the daytime share and almost all of it is consumed on site. Roof area, not demand, usually sets the limit here.
Schools and colleges
Teaching hours sit squarely inside the solar day, which is a good match during term. The catch is the summer break: April to June is when Vadodara roofs produce most, and classrooms stand empty. We size against term-time load and treat vacation output as the variable.
How the numbers work for a commercial building, in units
We size commercial plants in units, and we do not print a rupee saving on a web page. Your tariff category, demand charges and the share of output you consume yourself decide the money, and those come off your own bills.
Daytime units are the target. A shadow-free Vadodara roof yields 4 to 4.5 units per kilowatt per day across the year. A 25 kW plant on a showroom makes roughly 3,000 to 3,400 units a month. A 100 kW plant on a hospital block makes about 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year. Compare that with what your meter records between nine and five. The closer the two figures sit, the more of the output you use rather than export.
Sanctioned load caps the plant. MGVCL approves a rooftop system against the load your connection is sanctioned for, so a big roof does not mean a big plant. Solar also trims units more reliably than recorded maximum demand, because a cloudy afternoon can still see every air conditioner pull from the grid. We read twelve months of bills and demand readings before proposing a size.
Tax does what the subsidy does for homes. PM Surya Ghar covers residential consumers only. A taxpaying business that owns its plant can claim 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules. Since 22 Sep 2025, GST is 5% on solar equipment and 18% on the service share, taken as 30% of a supply-and-install contract, which blends to about 8.9%. At 25 kW the indicative installed market band in Gujarat is ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, about ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Anything larger is priced after a load study, because structure height, cable runs and metering shift the cost per kW from one building to the next.
| Plant size | Units a year |
|---|---|
| 25 kW | 36,500 – 41,063 |
| 50 kW | 73,000 – 82,125 |
| 100 kW | 1,46,000 – 1,64,250 |
| 250 kW | 3,65,000 – 4,10,625 |
| 500 kW | 7,30,000 – 8,21,250 |
Indicative installed cost at 25 kW: ₹10.75–13.50 lakh (market range, not a quotation). Larger plants are priced after a load study of your bills and roof.

Engineering a plant on a Vadodara commercial roof
Commercial roofs are busy and often shared. Three checks come before any panel layout: whose roof it is and what it carries, how the array stays safe, and how it joins your electrical system.
Roof ownership, slab and clutter
In a complex, the terrace is usually common property, so we ask for the association's or landlord's written consent at the first visit. We then map tanks, lift rooms, chillers and dish antennas, measure shadow paths, and check the slab or shed for the extra dead load. An elevated structure often reclaims space the clutter would otherwise waste.
Wind, fire paths and public access
Structures are galvanised and fixed for central Gujarat's monsoon gusts. Hospitals, hotels and schools have people moving on and around the roof. We therefore keep walkways clear, fence the array where needed, leave fire-escape routes and smoke vents open, and earth every frame. Lightning protection is designed for the building's height.
Inverters, protection and the MGVCL interface
Qbits inverters sit close to the main LT panel to keep AC runs short. The design carries DC and AC isolators, surge protection, earthing pits and the metering MGVCL needs. Where a hospital or campus takes supply at HT, the plant joins on the LT side behind your transformer and the drawings say so.
Approvals: who does what.
Nothing connects until MGVCL approves it, and approvals move faster when the drawings match the building. We prepare the file and stand with you at the inspection.
Consents, load study and drawings
We collect roof consent where the terrace is shared, read your bills and sanctioned load, survey the roof, and prepare the layout and single-line diagram. This becomes the file MGVCL reviews, so we check it twice.
UsRooftop application
We submit the application with your consumer number, plant rating, diagram and equipment datasheets. MGVCL checks it against your sanctioned load and the local network, then approves it or returns it with queries we answer.
Us, then MGVCLInstallation and safety paperwork
We build to the approved design and compile earthing results, test reports and protection settings. Where your plant size or connection type needs an Electrical Inspectorate clearance, we prepare and pursue that file too.
UsInspection, metering and commissioning
MGVCL inspects the plant and fits or certifies the meters. Once it is energised, generation starts showing on your bill. Our engineer attends the visit so any query is closed on the spot.
MGVCLThree ways to fund the plant.
Three ways to pay. The right one depends on whether your organisation pays income tax and how it treats capital spending.
Buy it outright
The business owns the plant, books it as an asset and claims 40% accelerated depreciation from the year it is put to use. This suits a profitable showroom, hotel or private clinic with tax to set off. Our AMC then covers cleaning visits, inspections and inverter checks for the term you choose.
Bank loan or EMI
Banks and NBFCs lend against rooftop plants for businesses, and you still own the asset for depreciation. We supply the quotation, bill of materials and generation estimate a lender asks for. The lender sets rate and tenure, so compare offers on total cost, not monthly instalment.
OPEX or RESCO
A third party owns the plant on your roof and you pay for the units it delivers. This suits trusts running schools or hospitals that pay no income tax and gain nothing from depreciation. Read tenure, buy-out terms and roof-access clauses closely, because they bind you for years.
How the project runs.
Five stages from your first call to a working plant. You see every document before MGVCL does.
Where we work from
Heaven Green Energy is headquartered at Mota Varachha, Surat, and has no branch office in Vadodara. We serve Vadodara and the wider central Gujarat region through our channel partner network and field engineering team, who run the surveys, supervise installation and handle MGVCL coordination on site. You should know that before you sign, not after.
Bills and consents · Day 1
You share twelve months of bills. We check tariff category, sanctioned load and daytime use, and tell you early whether a shared roof needs a landlord or association letter.
Roof and load survey · Week 1
An engineer measures usable area, maps shading from tanks and lift rooms, inspects the main panel, and where useful logs your load for a few days.
Design and proposal · Week 2
You receive the layout, single-line diagram, bill of materials and a monthly generation estimate in units. The price follows from that design, not from a rate card.
Approvals and installation · Weeks 3 to 8
We file with MGVCL, procure Adani modules and Qbits inverters, and install around your opening hours, ward rounds or exam timetable so daily work continues.
Inspection and maintenance · After approval
MGVCL inspects and connects the plant. We hand over test reports and warranties, switch on monitoring and start the agreed cleaning and inspection schedule.

Six things to check with any vendor.
- Commercial buildings in Vadodara draw from MGVCL. Torrent Power has no Vadodara licence, and SEZ units should read the licensee on their own bill.
- Each kilowatt produces 4 to 4.5 units a day, so a 50 kW plant makes about 73,000 to 82,000 units a year.
- Businesses get no PM Surya Ghar subsidy. A taxpaying owner claims 40% accelerated depreciation; a non-taxpaying trust may prefer OPEX.
- GST on a supply-and-install contract blends to about 8.9%: 5% on equipment and 18% on the 30% service share.
- Sanctioned load and daytime consumption set plant size. Schools must also allow for idle summer months.
- Shared terraces need written consent first, and plants above 25 kW are priced only after a load study.
