Rooftop solar for factories in Makarpura GIDC.

Machine shops, fabrication bays and pharma plants in Makarpura GIDC, Vadodara, draw most of their power while the sun is up. A plant on your own shed or terrace covers part of that daytime load directly. We design it, file it with MGVCL and maintain it, using modules as an authorised channel partner of Adani and Qbits inverters.

The short answer

Rooftop solar suits most Makarpura GIDC units because machining, fabrication and pharma HVAC loads peak in daylight. Each kW of panels yields 4 to 4.5 units a day, so 100 kW gives roughly 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year. MGVCL is the licensee and approves the grid connection. A 25 kW plant costs about ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh; bigger plants are priced after a load study.

The estate

What Makarpura's factories actually run on

Makarpura is the GIDC estate inside Vadodara's own city limits. Its units are mostly engineering and pharmaceutical, and both kinds buy their heaviest electricity during working daylight hours, which is when a rooftop plant produces.

Makarpura sits on the southern side of Vadodara, between the Mumbai rail line and the residential belt of Tarsali and Manjalpur. Wikipedia's article on the area describes it as an important industrial district of the city with a GIDC estate, and places the Vadodara Chamber of Commerce and Industry there. That article carries an unreferenced tag, so treat it as a pointer rather than proof. Makarpura railway station sits on the Western Railway main line, and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor lists Makarpura among its stations in Gujarat.

The Vadodara district administration's site names engineering, machine tools, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and glass among the district's industries. It also says Vadodara hosts a large share of India's power transmission and distribution equipment makers, along with hundreds of ancillary suppliers. Plenty of those ancillary shops are small: a CNC line, a press, a paint booth, a test bench.

We could not open GIDC's own estate record for Makarpura, so this page states no founding year, plot count or area. We also name no company. What matters for solar is your connection, your roof and the shape of your daytime load, and we measure those on site.

Machine shops and CNC lines

Lathes, machining centres, grinders and the compressors behind them run through the day shift and stop at night. That pattern lines up with solar output almost hour for hour, so a correctly sized plant feeds most of its units straight into the shop floor instead of the grid.

Fabrication, welding and heat treatment

Welding sets, shot blasting and electric furnaces draw heavy, uneven current. Solar does not smooth those spikes, and your demand charge still follows the peak. What solar does is shave the steady base underneath them, which is why we log the load before choosing a size.

Pharma HVAC, chillers and purified water

Clean rooms, air handling units and water systems often run around the clock. Solar covers the daytime share of that base load and leaves the night share on the grid. Units with a near-flat profile usually get the cleanest match between plant size and consumption.

Electrical equipment assembly and testing

Units building or testing transformers, switchgear and panels can draw short, high test loads. We separate those events from the everyday load when we read your logger data. That way we size the plant to what the factory uses daily, not to its busiest test hour.

How the numbers work

How the numbers work for a Makarpura unit

Count units, not rupees. A rooftop plant offsets daytime units you would otherwise buy from MGVCL, and the value of each unit depends on your own tariff category, which only your bill shows.

Start from units. Each kW of panels on an unshaded Vadodara roof produces about 4 to 4.5 units a day across the year. A 50 kW plant therefore makes 200 to 225 units on an average day, and a 100 kW plant 400 to 450. Compare that against the units your factory draws between nine and five, not against the monthly total. If a weekly shutdown or a second shift changes the picture, the logger will show it.

Demand and sanctioned load are separate questions. Solar lowers the units you import, but your contract demand and any demand charge follow your peak, and a cloud or a furnace start can still set that peak. We read both off your bill and keep them apart in the proposal. Where a plant would push generation well beyond your daytime use, we size it down rather than promise a credit we have not verified for your connection.

Tax shapes the effective cost. A profitable firm that owns the plant can claim 40% accelerated depreciation on solar power generating systems in the year it is put to use. Our guide to accelerated depreciation on solar explains the mechanics. Since 22 Sep 2025, solar equipment carries 5% GST and the service share of a turnkey contract, taken as 30%, carries 18%, which works out to about 8.9% overall. As a reference point, a 25 kW plant runs about ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, roughly ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW. Larger plants are priced only after the load study and roof check.

Generation from verified Gujarat constants (4 to 4.5 units per kW per day)
Plant sizeUnits a year
25 kW36,500 – 41,063
50 kW73,000 – 82,125
100 kW1,46,000 – 1,64,250
250 kW3,65,000 – 4,10,625
500 kW7,30,000 – 8,21,250

Indicative installed cost at 25 kW: ₹10.75–13.50 lakh (market range, not a quotation). Larger plants are priced after a load study of your bills and roof.

Engineering checks on a Makarpura roof

Older sheds and RCC terraces both carry solar, but on different terms. We settle three things before quoting: load capacity, wind and fire safety, and the electrical tie-in with MGVCL.

Sheet, purlin and slab capacity

Many estate buildings have been extended or re-roofed more than once, so the drawings rarely match the shed. We measure purlin sections and spacing, note corroded or patched sheets, and check RCC slabs for waterproofing. If the structure needs stiffening or new sheeting, you hear that in the proposal before money changes hands.

Wind load, fixing and fire access

Vadodara's pre-monsoon storms test every fixing. Rails go into purlins with sealed penetrations, and the layout leaves clear routes for cleaning, for fire crews and around ridge vents, exhaust fans and skylights. Roofs above paint booths, furnaces or solvent stores get extra spacing, and the array is earthed and lightning-protected.

Switchgear, metering and the MGVCL tie-in

Qbits inverters sit close to your main LT panel to keep cable runs short. The single-line diagram shows DC and AC isolation, surge protection, earthing and metering. For HT consumers the plant joins on the LT side of your transformer, and MGVCL publishes a separate document list for HT rooftop agreements, which we follow.

MGVCL

Approvals: who does what.

No rooftop plant runs in parallel with MGVCL's network without the licensee's approval and inspection. We prepare and follow the file, and you sign each form after reading it.

1

Load data, survey and drawings

We collect a year of bills, your sanctioned load and supply voltage, then survey the roof and fit a logger if needed. The layout and single-line diagram come from that data, and we check consumer details against the bill before anything is filed.

Us
2

Filing with MGVCL

The application carries your consumer number, plant size, diagram and equipment details. MGVCL's solar rooftop page lists the forms and undertakings it expects, including an undertaking on the CEI drawing. The licensee reviews the file and approves it or returns queries.

Us, then MGVCL
3

Build and test records

We install to the approved drawing, then record earthing resistance, insulation tests and inverter protection settings. Where the plant size or your connection needs the Chief Electrical Inspector's clearance, we prepare that drawing and submission and track it until it closes.

4

Inspection, metering and switch-on

MGVCL engineers inspect the plant and install or test the generation and import-export meters. Once they sign off, the plant is energised and its units start appearing on your bill. Our engineer attends the inspection to answer technical questions on the spot.

MGVCL
Paying for it

Three ways to fund the plant.

The right way to pay depends on whether your firm pays tax, how it treats capital spending and how long it expects to stay on the plot.

Buy the plant from cash

Owning the plant outright gives you every unit it makes and the 40% depreciation claim in the year of use. It suits a taxpaying unit that owns its plot or holds a long lease. Our annual maintenance contract then covers cleaning schedules, inspections, inverter health and generation reviews.

Term loan or equipment finance

Banks and NBFCs finance rooftop plants for MSMEs, and you still own the asset and claim depreciation. We provide the quotation, bill of materials and a generation estimate in the form lenders ask for. Rate and tenure are the lender's decision, so compare the full cost of each offer.

Third-party ownership (OPEX)

A developer owns the plant on your roof and charges you for the units it produces. You spend no capital but give up the depreciation claim. Read tenure, exit and buy-out clauses and roof-access terms closely, and check how the contract handles a sale or relocation of your unit.

From enquiry to export

How the project runs.

Five stages take a Makarpura plant from first call to grid connection. Durations vary with plant size and MGVCL's queue.

Where we work from

Heaven Green Energy's only office is at Mota Varachha in Surat; we have no branch in Vadodara. Makarpura projects are surveyed, supervised and taken through MGVCL by our field engineering team and channel partner network in Central Gujarat. We tell you who will be on your roof before you sign, not after.

01

Bills and first call · Day 1 to 2

You share twelve months of MGVCL bills and basic plot details. We flag any obvious blockers, such as shading, roof condition or a connection change, before arranging a visit.

02

Survey and load logging · About 1 week

An engineer inspects the roof, panels and transformer, then logs your load where bills alone cannot show the daytime pattern. Shift timings and planned expansions go into the brief.

03

Design and proposal · About 1 week

You receive the layout, single-line diagram, bill of materials, expected units and a firm price. We explain each line and change the design if your plans change.

04

MGVCL approval and build · Depends on file

We file with MGVCL and build once approval arrives. Installation is planned around your shifts so machines keep running and roof work stays away from loading bays.

05

Inspection and handover · After MGVCL visit

MGVCL inspects and meters the plant. We hand over test records, warranties and monitoring access, and the maintenance schedule starts from the switch-on date.

Six things to check with any vendor.

  1. Makarpura GIDC lies inside Vadodara city, and MGVCL is the licensee, not Torrent Power.
  2. Engineering and pharma loads run mostly in daylight, which suits rooftop solar well.
  3. Each kW yields 4 to 4.5 units a day, so 100 kW gives about 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year.
  4. Solar cuts imported units; demand charges still follow your peak, so size on logged load.
  5. Owners can claim 40% accelerated depreciation, and turnkey GST works out near 8.9%.
  6. Plants above 25 kW are priced only after a load study and a roof check.
Questions

Industrial solar in Makarpura GIDC, answered.

Cost & output

How much does rooftop solar cost for a Makarpura factory?
A 25 kW plant runs about ₹10.75 lakh to ₹13.50 lakh, roughly ₹43,000 to ₹54,000 per kW at that size. We do not quote a per-kW rate for bigger plants, because roof work, structure and cabling vary too much. Those prices follow a load study and a roof survey.
How many units will a 100 kW plant generate in Makarpura?
Expect 400 to 450 units on an average day, or about 1.46 to 1.64 lakh units a year, from a shade-free roof. Output dips in the monsoon and peaks in spring. Dust from nearby fabrication and road traffic lowers it unless panels are cleaned on schedule.
Will you tell me my rupee savings and payback?
Not on this page, and not before seeing your bill. Savings depend on your tariff category, demand charges and how much generation you use on site. After the load study we work out units offset and show the calculation, so your accountant can apply your own tariff to it.

Licensee & approvals

Who is the electricity licensee for Makarpura GIDC?
Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) serves Vadodara city, including Makarpura. Torrent Power holds no licence in Vadodara. MGVCL's directory lists a sub-division called GIDC in its Baroda City Circle, but gives no address, so check the sub-division printed on your own bill.
Which documents does MGVCL publish for factory rooftop solar?
MGVCL's solar rooftop page publishes a document list for LT rooftop plants and a separate list for HT rooftop net-metering agreements. It also carries an undertaking on the CEI drawing and a provisional agreement for captive use under the GIRE Policy 2025. We use the current versions from that page when we file.
Can surplus solar be banked or credited for an industrial unit?
That depends on your connection, plant size and the GERC regulation and state policy in force when you apply. We will not quote a banking rule we have not checked against the current document. We confirm the terms with MGVCL for your consumer number before finalising plant size.

Roof & engineering

Can an old asbestos or tin shed carry solar panels?
Metal sheds usually can, after a purlin and fixing check; sometimes a few purlins need stiffening. Asbestos cement sheets are brittle and unsafe to walk on, so we normally advise replacing them or using a separate structure. We put the recommendation in writing after the survey.
Will installation stop production?
Usually not. Roof work happens above running machines, and the only shutdown is a short one when we connect to your main panel. We schedule that for a weekly off or a shift change, and we keep material movement clear of loading bays and fire exits.
Do pharma units need anything different?
Mostly the access plan. Clean-room roofs often carry air handling units, ducts and exhausts that cast shade and need service space. We map those first and avoid penetrations above controlled areas where possible. Your quality team should approve the method statement before work begins.

Finance & tax

Can my factory claim accelerated depreciation on solar?
Yes, if the firm owns the plant and pays tax. Solar power generating systems qualify for 40% depreciation under Appendix I of the Income Tax Rules from the year of use. Your chartered accountant should confirm how it applies to your books.
Does the PM Surya Ghar subsidy apply to a factory?
No. The scheme pays up to ₹78,000 for residential rooftop systems only: ₹30,000 per kW for the first two kW and ₹18,000 for the third. Factories pay full price but can use accelerated depreciation, and GST on a turnkey plant works out near 8.9%.
